The capital of Venezuela is the most important city in the country, but not for me. In fact, it’s not one of my favorite cities. However, every place on the planet has interesting corners.
And instead of saying why I don’t like Caracas, today I’ll say the opposite.
The photos I present were taken in different areas that are relatively close to each other, because I was walking—a perfect excuse to capture its corners, its bustling life, but especially its architecture, and even more so when you have to rush back to your city for personal reasons that are not relevant here.
Anyway... Let’s start!
Downtown is a place that lends itself to walking and walking, contemplating its streets and buildings, and feeling the rhythm of Caracas (I’m not talking about music), but the hustle and bustle that is perceived in the atmosphere, especially at the time I was there, which was around 4 in the afternoon.
I’ve been going to Caracas all my life because my paternal family is from there, but honestly, sometimes I get lost, even in my hometown.
Nonetheless, I followed my photographic instincts and reached Bellas Artes.
I entered the Museum of Fine Arts, which is a complex of science and art museums, of course.
I didn’t take many photos because the camera I had doesn’t work well indoors. Next time I go, I’ll try to bring a better one.
One of the positive aspects of Caracas is that there are many places to visit, even if you are on foot like me, you might find places for all tastes.
As I love history, I took the opportunity to visit several museums that I already visited in my childhood, such as the Casa de Bolívar, for example, which I didn’t photograph for the same reason mentioned above.
I also entered many churches. Wow, Caracas, like Venezuela in general, is a deeply Catholic country, and the number of churches is a testament to that. I, who am not a devout man at all, admire the architectural beauty of these religious temples.
Further up from Downtown, I reached the outskirts of the Miraflores Palace, which is the presidential residence.
Nobody is allowed to enter because it is guarded by soldiers. Then, a bit further down, I passed by the Llaguno Bridge, where people died in a protest against the government in 2022. This sculpture is a reminder of that day, to honor the victims in some way.
Despite the historical legacy of violence, many inhabitants are quite the opposite.
Remember when I said I’m not good with directions? Well, I reached all the mentioned places thanks to the instructions of passersby and even a very kind police officer.
It’s a shame I couldn’t stay that day because, indeed, 24 hours is too short to capture the essence of Venezuela’s capital.
I didn’t take the recommended tour not because I didn’t want to, but because I went a lot as a child, and I truly recommend it.
I did this improvised tour first because I didn’t have time, and second because I followed my photographic eye.

La capital de Venezuela es la ciudad más importante del país, pero no para mí. De hecho, no es una de mis ciudades favoritas. Sin embargo, todos los lugares del planeta tienen rincones interesantes.
Y en vez de decir por qué no me gusta Caracas, hoy diré lo contrario.
Las fotos que presento fueron tomadas en diferentes zonas que digamos están cerca, porque andaba a pie, una excusa perfecta para registrar sus esquinas, su vida ajetreada, pero en especial su arquitectura, y más cuando debes irte rápido a tu ciudad por motivos personales que no vienen al caso.
En fin… ¡Comencemos!
El Centro es un lugar que se presta para caminar y caminar contemplando sus calles, edificios y sentir el ritmo caraqueño (no hablo de música), sino del bullicio y el apuro que se percibe en el ambiente y más a la hora en la que estaba, que era aproximadamente las 4 de la tarde.
He ido toda mi vida a Caracas porque mi familia paterna es de allá, pero la verdad a veces no me ubico del todo, incluso me pasa en mi ciudad natal.
No obstante, me dejé llevar por mis instintos fotográficos y llegué hasta Bellas Artes.
Entré al museo de Bellas Artes, que es un complejo museístico de ciencias y arte, por supuesto.
No tomé muchas fotos porque la cámara que tenía no funciona bien en interiores. La próxima vez que vaya trataré de llevarla.
Uno de los aspectos positivos de Caracas es que hay muchos lugares por visitar, incluso si andas a pie como yo, es posible que te encuentres con locales para todos los gustos.
A mí, que me gusta la historia, aproveché la oportunidad de visitar varios museos que en mi infancia ya visité, como la Casa de Bolívar, por ejemplo, que tampoco fotografié por la misma razón que dije unas líneas más arriba.
Entré a muchas iglesias también. Wow, Caracas, al igual que Venezuela en general, es un país sumamente católico, para muestra de un botón es la cantidad de iglesias. Yo, que no soy para nada un hombre devoto, admiro la belleza arquitectónica de estos templos religiosos.
Más arriba del Centro llegué hasta las afueras del Palacio de Miraflores, que es la casa presidencial.
No dejan entrar a nadie porque está resguardada por soldados. Luego más abajo pasé por el Puente Llaguno, donde en 2022 murieron personas en una protesta en contra del Gobierno. Esta escultura es un recordatorio de ese día, para honrar de alguna forma a las víctimas.
Pese a la violencia como herencia histórica, muchos habitantes son totalmente lo contrario.
¿Recuerdas que dije que no soy bueno para orientarme en direcciones? Bueno, llegué a todos los sitios mencionados gracias a las indicaciones de transeúntes e incluso de una policía muy amable.
Lástima que ese día no podía quedarme, porque en efecto, 24 horas se hacen cortas para registrar la capital de Venezuela.
No hice el paseo que todos recomiendan no porque no quisiera, sino porque de niño fui mucho y la verdad los recomiendo.
Yo hice este recorrido improvisado primero porque no tenía tiempo, y segundo porque me guié por mi ojo fotográfico.
