Argentina - Colourful landscapes on the Sixthousanders Route in Catamarca: an unexpected but welcome ride. 😃❤️

Before arriving in the province of Catamarca I knew that it would be difficult to see so much without a private vehicle, but I was happy to go and see at least a little. In the end, thanks to the circumstances and the way things turned out, I ended up seeing more than I expected. When I made the short trip I had planned to the town of Fiambalá, I met a couple travelling by car with whom I visited the hot springs and who invited me to go for a walk with them the next day. I jokingly say that they adopted me during those days, which allowed me to get to know another interesting spot in that area: the Sixthousanders Route 😃.

After having spent a nice day in the Fiambalá hot springs, thanks to the fact that I had the courage to ask these strangers to please take me there, I thought that everything was going to stay there. But at the end of the day, they kindly invited me to go for a walk with them the next day. Their plan was to do the Sixthousanders Route, with a few stops in between to see the scenery. I had no definite plans for my stay in Fiambalá, so I didn't hesitate to join them. Besides, this was a ride that I would not be able to do without a vehicle 😃.

This route is more than 200 km long and passes through a variety of colourful landscapes. It is the National Route 60 that joins the town of Fiambalá with the San Francisco Pass, on the border with Chile. There are those who complete the whole section, but my hosts' idea was to drive only as far as the Hotel Cortaderas, right in the middle of the route. This was more than enough for me, because I knew that in the 100 km we would see a lot of beautiful scenery 😃.

Our first stop was at the side of the road to walk to the Cañon del Indio, a trail between all those beautiful orange rock formations. Then, we continued onwards where we encountered many other bright mountains. This route is called "of the sixthousenders" because you can see a lot of mountains and volcanoes with more than 6000 masl. The province of Catamarca is a good destination for those trekkers who want to train to climb the giant Aconcagua of 6.961 masl in the province of Mendoza 😃.

As the kilometres on the route progressed, the scenery changed, so much so that it looked like different places. So far, the landscapes I had seen when I was in the capital of the province were rather green, but here everything looked very dry. We got tired of seeing reddish, yellow and orange mountains, as well as dark mountains with snow on their peaks. This scenic route is very beautiful to do it without haste and to be able to get out of the car every now and then to admire the scenery calmly. It is well worth it ❤️.

I like the spontaneity of trips like this one, where even if you don't have an exactly defined plan, good opportunities always present themselves. Luckily, I met this couple of travellers who didn't hesitate to make me part of their holiday for those two days. It was great to have shared those moments with them and that they allowed me to get to know this part of the province. Thanks to chance and to having crossed paths at the tourist office, I now have these postcards in my mind as part of a great trip to Fiambalá ❤️.

Wow, this place is really beautiful.

I'm glad your stay in this beautiful province turned out to be very different from what you had in mind, and that you found these people who were kind enough to invite you to see beautiful places.

Your photos are beautiful as always, I love the mountains and there's a lot of that in your photos.

Thank you very much, dear friend @lauramica, for sharing this beautiful experience.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend.

What cool people you met, that's the fun of traveling this way, the surprise of things that you don't plan and can happen, although clearly you have to be prepared for any inconvenience since you only have yourself to count on.
I don't know if I would say that it is a landscape that I like but clearly I would go to see it and travel through it for the memory and the experience. Very happy new year @lauramica
