One of the trips I had made before the pandemic was precisely to the city of San Martín de Los Andes and on that occasion I had already gone to see La Islita with the traditional walk there. But good places deserve to be visited twice or more, so I didn't hesitate to go again when we went this year. Initially we thought it would take us 1 hour to walk there because it was what they had told us it would take, but everything got longer and longer, but finally we arrived ❤️!
Uno de los viajes que había hecho antes de la pandemia fue precisamente a la ciudad de San Martín de Los Andes y en esa oportunidad ya había ido a conocer La Islita con la tradicional caminata hasta allí . Pero los buenos lugares merecen ser visitados dos o más veces, asi que no dudé en volver a ir cuando fuimos este año. Inicialmente creíamos que ibamos a tardar 1 hora en llegar caminando hasta allí porque era lo que nos habían dicho que tardaríamos, pero todo se fue alargando y alargando cada vez más, pero finalmente ¡llegamos ❤️!
Turns out it was a beautiful summer day: sunny and very hot. The coast of Lake Lácar was beautiful to enjoy and take a dip in, but instead we preferred to undertake a long walk of 5 km up the mountain in the sunshine. Good choice, right 😅?
Resulta que estaba haciendo un día veraniego hermoso: sol y mucho calor. La costa del lago Lácar estaba hermosa para disfrutarla y darse un chapuzón, pero en lugar de eso preferimos emprender una larga caminata de 5 km montaña arriba al rayo del sol. ¿Buena elección, no es cierto 😅?

Of course we were cautious and brought plenty of water and sunscreen. At that moment I thanked my past self for investing in some good walking shoes: I knew that sooner or later I would need them. To access the path that leads to La Islita, it is necessary to climb the mountain that is to the right of the coast. This path is almost entirely signposted, it is of "medium" difficulty and can even be done by children ❤️.
Por supuesto fuimos precavidos y llevamos bastante agua y protector solar. En ese momento agradecí a mi yo del pasado por invertir en unas buenas zapatillas para caminar: yo sabía que tarde o temprano las necesitaría. Para acceder al sendero que conduce a La Islita es necesario subir la montaña que está hacia la derecha de la costa. Este camino está señalizado casi en su totalidad, es de dificultad "media" e incluso lo pueden hacer niños ❤️.

Unlike the golden landscapes I had seen in the fall of 2019, this summer gave us completely green and brilliant vegetation. In any case, I think that Lake Lácar and San Martín de Los Andes must be beautiful at any time of the year. Now I just need to meet her in it white face when it is completely covered in snow ❤️.
A diferencia de los paisajes dorados que había visto en el otoño de 2019, este verano nos regaló vegetación completamente verde y brillante. De cualquier forma creo que el Lago Lácar y San Martín de Los Andes debe ser hermoso en cualquier época del año. Ahora solo me falta conocerla en su faceta blanca cuando esté completamente cubierta de nieve ❤️.
Regarding the walk, I think it was only quiet the first 5 minutes when the terrain was almost flat. It only took a moment for us to find ourselves with the steep climbs that made you realize that you were climbing a mountain. While my cousins moved away faster so as not to miss a beat, I walked at my leisurely pace behind 😅.
Con respecto a la caminata, creo que solo estuvo tranquila los primeros 5 minutos cuando el terreno era casi plano. Solo bastó un momento para que nos encontráramos con las subidas pronunciadas que te hacían dar cuenta de que estabas subiendo una montaña. Mientras mis primos se alejaban más rápido para no perder el ritmo, yo iba a mi paso tranquilo atrás 😅.

After half an hour walking we came across the sign announcing the Mirador Bandurrias. I remembered this viewpoint thanks to my previous visit, I still have those landscapes etched in my mind, so I knew that we were already relatively close to La Islita 😀.
Después de media hora caminando nos encontramos con el cartel que anunciaba el Mirador Bandurrias. Yo recordaba este mirador gracias a mi visita anterior, aún tengo esos paisajes grabados en mi mente, por lo que sabía que ya estábamos relativamente cerca de La Islita 😃.

I think it was after this that we made the mistake that lengthened the entire walk. When we arrived at the post where the path to the Bandurrias viewpoint splits, instead of going along the marked path, my cousin suggested that it might be a good idea to "take another path that goes closer to the water." We weren't that tired yet, so we agreed and went 😅.
Creo que después de esto fue que cometimos el error que alargó toda la caminata. Cuando llegamos al puesto en donde se divide el camino hacia el mirador Bandurrias, en lugar de ir por el sendero marcado, mi primo sugirió que podía ser buena idea "tomar otro camino que vayan más cerca del agua". Todavía no estábamos tan cansandos, así que accedimos y fuimos 😅.
I don't deny that we didn't get some great views of the Lake, but at times I admit I was scared. There were no other people in that part and little by little it became all forest. We also had no signal on our cell phones so it was impossible to check the map. The only certainty we had was that if we traveled along the shore of the lake sooner or later we would reach the small island 😅.
No niego que no hayamos obtenido unas vistas geniales del Lago, pero por momentos admito que tuve miedo. No habían otras personas en esa parte y poco a poco se volvía todo bosque. Tampoco teníamos señal en nuestros celulares así que era imposible consultar el mapa. La única certeza que teníamos era que si recorríamos la orilla del lago tarde o temprano íbamos a llegar hasta la pequeña isla 😅.

And when everything seemed sad and desolate, we saw civilization again. We had been walking in the middle of nowhere for almost an hour and a half and seeing that there were houses restored my calm. I guess this was the path we should have taken originally as we saw signs pointing the trail again 😅.
Y cuando todo parecía triste y desolado, volvimos a ver civilización. Ya llevábamos casi 1 hora y media caminando en el medio de la nada y ver que habían casas me devolvió la calma. Supongo que este era el camino que debíamos haber tomado originalmente ya que volvimos a ver carteles que señalizaban el sendero 😅.

Did you see that the last sign said La Islita at 200m? Well, it was the most lying poster I've ever read. Those 200 meters seemed like 2 km to me or I don't know if it was fatigue but all I wanted was to GET THERE hahaha. The walk seemed ETERNAL 😂.
¿Vieron que el último cartel decía La Islita a 200m? Bueno, fue el cartel más mentiroso que leí en mi vida. Esos 200 metros me parecieron como 2 km o no sé si era el cansancio pero lo único que quería era LLEGAR jajaja. La caminata se me hizo ETERNA 😂.
And when the walk seemed endless, WE ARRIVED haha. Very hot but we arrived. In this area, an area with tables and chairs is prepared to spend the day, always taking care of the cleanliness of the place. There are no services here, it is almost a wild area so it must be kept in good condition 😃.
Y cuando parecía interminable la caminata, LLEGAMOS jaja. Con muchísimo calor pero llegamos. En esta área está preparada una zona con mesas y sillas para pasar el día, siempre cuidando la limpieza del lugar. Aquí no hay ningún servicio, es casi un área agrestre por lo que hay que mantenerla en buenas condiciones 😃.
And there it was, after 3 years of last seeing it, the little island. I think this place is one of the icons of San Martín de Los Andes: you cannot leave here without coming to see it. For those who cannot reach the island by trekking, they can access it by private vehicle since there is a parallel route along which cars can travel. Of course: drivers must be skilled because they are not going to save themselves from the ups and downs that there are 😅.
Y allí estaba, después de 3 años de haberla visto por última vez, la pequeña isla. Creo que este lugar es uno de los íconos de San Martín de Los Andes: no podes irte de acá si venir a verla. Para aquellos que no puedan llegar hasta la isla haciedo trekking pueden acceder en vehículo particular ya que paralelamente hay una ruta por la que se puede circular con automóviles. Eso sí: los conductores deben ser habilidosos porque no se van a salvar de las subidas y bajadas que hay 😅.
This beach, like the ones we have already seen on the coast of Lake Lácar, is made up of large stones and crystal clear, icy waters. But that did not seem to matter to the people: many went swimming for a long time, some even crossed to the little island, which was only separated by about 20 meters from the shore. Of course, at your own risk because there is no lifeguard service here or anything like that 😅.
Esta playa, al igual que las que ya conocimos en la costa del Lago Lácar, es de piedras grandes y de aguas cristalinas y heladas. Pero eso no parecía importarle a la gente: muchos se metían a nadar por un buen rato, incluso algunos cruzaban hasta la islita, que solo estaba separada por unos 20 metros de la orilla. Eso sí, bajo su propia responsabilidad porque aquí no hay servicio de guardavidas ni nada de eso 😅.
And I, as always, without knowing how to swim, I just had to settle for standing and ready. I must say that the water was really cold, and even though it was over 28°C that day, a dip of a few minutes was enough to cool you down for a long time 😅.
Y yo, como siempre, sin saber nadar solo me tuve que conformar quedándome parada y listo. Debo decir que el agua de verdad estaba helada, y a pesar de que ese día hacían más de 28°C, un chapuzón de unos minutos ya era suficiente para refrescarte por un buen rato 😅.

In the end all the walking was worth it and the only thing I have to complain about beyond everything I complained about on the way was that we arrived when the sun was already starting to go down, so it was setting behind the scenes and already We couldn't get as many good photos. Still, the best memories will always be in our minds ❤️.
Al final tanta caminata valió la pena y de lo único que tengo para quejarme más allá de todo lo que me quejé en el camino fue que llegamos cuando el sol ya estaba empezando a bajar, por lo que se estaba poniendo detrás de la escena y ya no pudimos sacar tantas fotos buenas. Igual, los mejores recuerdos siempre estarán en nuestras mentes ❤️.
By the time we decided to go back, we no longer had enough energy to become adventurous and explore other paths, so we took the trail marked by the signs and took the time we had planned. At that time we would have taken the van there, but we couldn't have planned it so well either 😅.
Para cuando decidimos volver, ya no teníamos tanta energía como para hacernos los aventureros e ir explorando otros caminos así que tomamos el sendero delimitado por los carteles y tardamos el tiempo que teníamos planeado. En ese momento nos hubiese haber llevado la camioneta hasta allí, pero tampoco podíamos haberlo planeado tan bien 😅.
I think that this trekking is one of the obligatory walks if you are in San Martín de Los Andes. It is quite popular, it can be done without much difficulty and it is an interesting place to go for a day walk. Of course, I recommend that you go with all your batteries charged because between the walk and getting into the water you end up super exhausted. That day we did get to sleep early: none of us had enough energy to stay awake, only my aunt who stayed on the shores of the lake enjoying the scenery. But just one night was enough for us to rest and the next day we started very early for a new ride ❤️.
Pienso que este trekking es uno de los paseos obligatorios si estas en San Martín de Los Andes. Es bastante popular, se puede hacer sin tanta dificultad y es un interesante lugar para ir a pasear el día. Eso sí, les recomiendo que vayan con todas las pilas cargadas porque entre la caminata y meterse al agua terminas super agotado. Ese día sí que nos domimos temprano: ninguno de nosotros tenía tanta energía como para desvelarse, solo mi tía que se quedó a orillas del lago disfrutando el paisaje. Pero tan solo nos bastó una noche para descansar y al otro día arrancar bien temprano hacia un nuevo paseo ❤️.

This really does remind me of being a kid, parking our car kilometers away from the beaches (specially Praia do Rosa) and just walking through the woods around the beach because the lines were enormous.
