When planning outdoor activities in a beautiful location, hiking is always one of the first options I think of. When I choose a destination to go for a walk, I like that it has places to walk to, or that the walk itself is a walk visiting a beautiful landscape. This not only make us to save some money by not having to hire an excursion, but it also allows us to get some exercise and spend a more relaxed afternoon, managing the times to our liking. When my friend and I were in the city of Bariloche, we looked for a place we could do a bit of hiking and that's how we got to the small Los Duendes Waterfall ❤️.
A la hora de planificar actividades al aire libre en un lugar hermoso, el senderismo siempre es una de las primeras opciones en las que pienso. Cuando elijo un destino para ir a pasear me gusta que tenga lugares a los cuales ir caminando, o que el paseo en sí mismo sea una caminata visitando un paisaje hermoso. Esto no solo nos hace ahorrar algo de dinero al no tener que contratar una excursión, si no que nos permite hacer un poco de ejercicio y pasar una tarde más relajada, manejando los tiempos a nuestro gusto. Cuando mi amiga y yo nos encontrábamos en la ciudad de Bariloche buscamos en qué lugar podíamos hacer un poco de senderismo y así fue como llegamos hasta la pequeña Cascada Los Duendes ❤️.
Both my friend and I had been to Bariloche before, so for this trip we thought about doing some things that we would not have done on previous trips. All of Bariloche is beautiful and has a lot of traditional places to see: as this destination is mainly winter, there are several centers where you can ski and also panoramic points to see the mountains when they are all snow covered. But since this trip was last month and it was autumn, we didn't see a bit of snow, but we did have all the roads clear to go where we wanted 😃.
Tanto mi amiga como yo ya habíamos estado en Bariloche antes, así que para este viaje pensamos en hacer algunas cosas que no hubiesemos hecho en los viajes anteriores. Todo Bariloche es hermoso y tiene un montón de lugares tradicionales para ver: como este destino es principalmente invernal, hay varios centros en donde se puede hacer ski y también puntos panorámicos para ver las montañas cuando estan todas nevadas. Pero como este paseo fue el mes pasado y fue otoño, no vimos ni un poquito de nieve pero si teníamos todos los caminos despejados para ir a donde quisiéramos 😃.
After having investigated how far the public transport that left from the city center went, we found that we could get to the Lago Gutiérrez area, with its beaches to spend the day. Getting there took us only about 40 minutes by bus and then we had to walk about a kilometer to get to the shore of the lake. But they had also told us that if we continued walking a little further we would find one of the entrances to the Nahuel Huapi National Park, so that's what we did 😃.
Después de haber investigado hasta donde iban los transportes públicos que partían desde el centro de la ciudad, nos encontramos con que podíamos llegar hasta la zona del Lago Gutiérrez, con sus playas para pasar el día. Llegar hasta allá nos tomó solo unos 40 minutos en colectivo y luego tuvimos que caminar algo de un kilómetro para llegar hasta la orilla del lago. Pero también nos habían dicho que si seguíamos caminando un poco más allá nos encontraríamos con una de las entradas del Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi así que eso fue lo que hicimos 😃.
That "little more we had to walk" turned into a walk of more than an hour and a half. The good thing was that the whole terrain was flat and there were also cars passing by, so we didn't feel so alone on the road. In addition, from time to time there were parties to go down to the shore of the lake and sit down to rest. Although all this part of the way to the entrance of the park is almost full of private properties, some leave small corridors so that visitors can access the water. How considerate of them, isn't it? 😅
Ese "poco más que teníamos que caminar" se trasformó en una caminata de más de una hora y media. Lo bueno fue que todo el terreno era plano y también pasaban autos, por lo que no nos sentimos tan solas en el camino. Además, cada tanto habían partes para bajar a la orilla del lago y sentarse a descansar. Si bien toda esta parte camino a la entrada del parque está casi llena de propiedades privadas, algunas dejan pequeños pasillos para que los visitantes puedan acceder al agua. ¿Que considerado de parte de ellos, no es verdad 😅?
When we finally got to where we were supposed to, we found a campsite, private of course. This place had all the necessary services to spend the day, such as tables and chairs, groceries, bathrooms, and of course space for camping. To the side were already the trails for walking, which had free access. This caught my attention because when you find yourself at the entrance to a National Park area, there is usually someone who charges you an entrance fee but this was not the case and we were able to pass for free 😃.
Cuando finalmente llegamos a donde debíamos, nos encotramos con un camping, por supuesto privado. Este lugar tenía todos los servicios necesarios para pasar el día, como mesas y sillas, proveeduría, baños y por supuesto espacio para acampar. Al costado ya se encontraban los senderos para ir caminando, los cuales tenían acceso libre. Esto me llamó la atención porque cuando te encontras en el ingreso a un área de Parque Nacional, generalmente hay alguién que te cobra una entrada pero este no fue el caso y pudimos pasar gratis 😃.
Four trekking trails start from this point: two with low difficulty to the Los Duendes Waterfall and to the Gutiérrez Lake viewpoint (ten minutes and one hour, respectively), another with medium difficulty to Playa Muñoz (2 hours per section) and the last one with High difficulty up to the Frey refuge (4 hours and a half per section). Our idea was only to go to the waterfall and luckily it was one of the easy trails, but the curiosity to know what the other trails would be like was planted in me. In these last walks I discovered that hiking is an activity that I like and I think that if I had to do long walks I would have no problems, but before doing that I need to exercise a little more and get suitable shoes 😅.
Desde este punto parten cuatro senderos de trekking: dos con dificultad baja hacia la Cascada de Los Duendes y hasta el mirador del Lago Gutiérrez (10 minutos y una hora respectivamente), otro con dificultad media hasta la Playa Muñoz (2 horas por tramo) y el último con dificultad alta hasta el refuguio Frey (4 horas y media por tramo). Nuestra idea solo era ir hasta la cascada y para nuestra suerte era uno de los senderos fáciles, pero la curiosidad de saber como serían los demás senderos se sembró en mí. En estos últimos paseos descubrí que el senderismo es una actividad que me gusta y creo que si tuviera que hacer caminatas largas no tendría problemas, pero antes de hacer eso necesito ejercitarme un poco más y conseguir calzado adecuado 😅.
The path to the Los Duendes Waterfall was quite simple: the signs said that it took you 10 minutes to get there but I think we did it in five. The road was also flat and on the way we passed many families and groups of retirees. It is seen that this place is one of those recommended for people with reduced mobility but who still want to have a little adventure, since the vehicles bring them to the entrance and then they only have to walk 500 meters. We had been walking with my friend for a while, but the good thing is that the forest was full of shade and it felt quite cool, so the walk was not difficult at all 😃.
El sendero hacia la Cascada Los Duendes era bastante sencillo: los carteles decian que tardabas 10 minutos en llegar pero creo que en cinco lo hicimos. El camino también era plano y en él nos cruzamos con muchas familias y grupos de jubilados. Se ve que este lugar es uno de los recomendados para personas con movilidad reducida pero que igual quieren tener un poco de aventura, ya que los vehículos los traen hasta la entrada y luego solo tienen que caminar 500 metros. Con mi amiga veníamos caminando hace rato, pero lo bueno es que el bosque estaba lleno de sombra y se sentía bastante fresco, por lo que el paseo no costó para nada 😃.
This waterfall was a bit small but the place was still adorable and it was worth getting here. Perhaps I would have liked fewer people crowded in the water to be able to take better photos, but I don't judge them because the day was beautiful enough to be in that beautiful place. Perhaps because of the proximity to winter, the flow was a bit low but we were still happy because there was at least some water. Regarding the name and its relationship with the goblins, I couldn't find anything to explain why they chose to call it that, but I don't doubt that it was because someone who came to this remote place began to hallucinate with forest creatures 😂.
Esta cascada era un poco pequeña pero igual el lugar era adorable y valió la pena llegar hasta acá. Quizás me hubiese gustado que hayan menos personas amontonadas en el agua para poder sacar mejores fotos, pero no los juzgo porque el día estaba hermoso como para estar en ese lugar lindo. Quizás por la proximidad con el invierno, el caudal estaba un poco bajo pero igual nos alegramos porque al menos algo de agua había. Con respecto al nombre y su relación con los duendes, no encontré nada que explique por qué eligieron llamarla así, pero no dudo que habrá sido porque alguien que llegó hasta este lugar tan alajado habrá empezado a alucinar con criaturas del bosque 😂.
Getting to this small waterfall fulfilled what my friend and I had proposed, which was to discover a new place in Bariloche. We already know almost all the "mainstream" places here, so this allowed us to go further and discover what else this area has to offer us. The whole city and the surroundings in this part of the province of Río Negro are beautiful, and once again we had the opportunity to enjoy them in a great trip so we give thanks for that 💕.
Llegar hasta esta pequeña cascada cumplió con lo que mi amiga y yo nos habíamos propuesto que era conocer un lugar nuevo de Bariloche. Casi todos los lugares "mainstream" de acá ya los conocemos, entonces esto nos permitió poder ir más allá y descubrir qué otras cosas tiene esta área para ofrecernos. Toda la ciudad y los alrededores en esta parte de la provincia de Río Negro son hermosos, y una vez más tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutarlos en un viaje genial así que damos gracias por eso 💕.

Hay tantas lugares para conocer en Bariloche y sus alrededores que si uno quisiera conocer todo llevaría más de un mes.
En las vacaciones del año 2022, cuando fuimos para Villa La Angostura fuimos un día a pasear a Bariloche y lo que vimos nos pareció muy lindo, pero la realidad que nos quedo con gusto a poco el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Igualmente no pierdo las esperanzas de volver en algún otro momento y disfrutar de esos paisajes maravillosos y de la magia que se solo se encuentra en nuestra hermosa Patagonia.
Vos sabés que esta cascada de los duendes se hizo muy conocida cuando comenzaron a dar los dibujos de los peques, en los cuales se mostraban bellísimos paisajes y hacían referencia a la mística de Bariloche y de la Patagonia en general.
Felicitaciones Lau por otro destino conocido, por otro desafío superado y por no detener ese gran motor que te lleva a conocer todos los lugares que te propones.

Hola Pablo. Es verdad que con solo un día no alcanza para ver todo lo lindo que hay, creo que ni siquiera unas semanas porque hay tanto para ver y hacer. Seguramente vas a poder ir en algún otro momento y todo lo que vean les va a gustar por lo hermoso que es.

Absolutely! The good weather was with us throughout that day :) I don't deny that I would have liked to see some snow even in the mountains, but at least the non-snow made the roads clear and we can get there fast 😃.

Thank you very much for reading ❣️. It was about 12°C that day. I'm a person who suffers a lot from the cold so I went very warm but as the walk progressed I had to take off a little clothes, the day was beautiful and the sun was quite warm. When we got to the waterfall, the trees were quite shady and it was cold again, so wrap up warm again 😅. At least we don't sweat after walking so much.

Que bello, en Cuba no tenemos lagos, pero si tenemos varias cascadas hermosas y ríos para bañarnos. Lamentablemente, por lo general están muy lejos de las ciudades y es difícil ir debido a la falta de transporte público.
