In addition to being known as the Córdoba sea, the lagoon we visited on our last trip has some other interesting qualities. One of them is its high salt content with which it turns its coast white, which makes it similar to the Dead Sea. The other, and more picturesque for me, is the presence of large communities of flamingos, who with their beauty attract curious visitors, but who move away as soon as they feel too intimidated. The Mar Chiquita lagoon in the province of Córdoba was a great setting for our winter vacation walks and we knew how to make the most of our days there ❤️.
Además de ser conocida como el mar cordobés, la laguna que visitamos en nuestro último viaje tiene algunas otras cualidades interesantes. Una de ellas es su alto contenido de sal con la cual vuelve blanquecina su costa, lo que la hace similar al mar muerto. La otra y más pintoresca para mí es la presencia de grandes comunidades de flamencos, quienes con su hermosura atraen a los visitantes curiosos, pero que se alejan en cuanto se ven demasiado intimidados. La laguna Mar Chiquita en la provincia de Córdoba fue un gran escenario para nuestros paseos en vacaciones de invierno y supimos aprovechar al máximo nuestros días por ahí ❤️.
For the winter holidays we chose to take a family trip and when we finally arrived in the province of Córdoba, we opted for an intermediate lodging between comfortable and cheap in the rooms of a campsite. This campsite is quite a large one within the city of Miramar de Ansenuza and what I liked the most about it is that it had direct access to the coast of the lagoon. This city is the only one that is on the shores of the lagoon, and enjoying an accommodation almost on it was quite interesting because it was not even necessary to leave there to get closer to the water 😃.
Para las vacaciones de invierno elegimos hacer un viaje familiar y cuando al fin llegamos a la provincia de Córdoba, optamos por un hospedaje intermedio entre cómodo y económico en las habitaciones de un camping. Este camping es uno bastante grande dentro de la ciudad de Miramar de Ansenuza y lo que más me gustó de él es que tenía salida directa a la costa de la laguna. Esta ciudad es la única que está a orillas de la laguna, y disfrutar de un alojamiento casi sobre ella fue bastante interesante porque ni siquiera era necesario salir de ahí para acercarse al agua 😃.
On the recommendation of the campsite owner, the best time to go to the coast was in the morning when there weren't so many people hanging around. The bottom of this place had a very wide area of beach where we could already see the effect of salt and dehydration on the ground, just like what we had seen in the surroundings of Laguna Epecuén, in the south of Buenos Aires 😃.
Por recomendación del dueño del camping, la mejor hora para acercarse a la costa era a la mañana cando aún no había tanta gente dando vueltas. El fondo de este lugar contaba con un espacio muy amplio de playa en donde ya podíamos ver el efecto de la sal y la deshidratación en el suelo, al igual que lo que habíamos visto en los alrededores de la Laguna Epecuén, en el sur de Buenos Aires 😃.
I was surprised to learn that the history of this place is quite similar to that of the other salt lagoon: in the 1980s, excessive irrigation from the rivers over this lagoon ended up flooding the city that had been built on its banks, leaving a part of it submerged under water. In the case of Epecuén, almost the entire city was flooded, but in this case a part was saved and it was around this that the city continued to expand. Years later, when the water was absorbed and the ruins were exposed, the city administration decided to dynamit the remains and that is why some old foundations can still be seen on the shore of the lagoon 🌟.
Me sorprendió saber que la historia de este lugar es bastante similar a la ocurrida en la otra laguna salada: en la década del 80, una irrigación excesiva de los ríos sobre esta laguna terminó por inundar la ciudad que se había construído a sus orillas, dejando una parte de ella sumergida bajo el agua. En el caso de Epecuén casi toda la ciudad quedó inundada, pero en este caso una parte se salvó y fue alrededor de eso que la ciudad siguió expandiéndose. Años después, cuando el agua se absorbió y quedaron a la luz las ruinas, la administración de la ciudad decidió dinamitar los restos y es por eso que en la costa de la laguna aún se pueden ver algunos cimientos antiguos 🌟.
I was also relieved to know that this tragedy did not leave fatalities, but the feeling of nostalgia was still inevitable. I imagine the people who have lost their houses with this flood, but from what I read, the governors handled the situation well and everyone was relocated to other places. Currently, the city has a tourist development quite based on the spa and the lagoon, and of course the history of what happened attracts many curious people like us 😅.
También me alivió saber que esta tragedia no dejó víctimas fatales, pero igual la sensación de nostalgia era inevitable. Me imagino a las personas que han perdido sus casas con esta crecida, pero por lo que leí, los gobernadores manejaron bien la situación y todos fueron reubicados en otros lugares. Actualmente, la ciudad tiene un desarrollo turístico bastante basado en el balneario y la laguna, y por supuesto que la historia de lo sucedido atrae a muchos curiosos como nosotros 😅.
In addition to warning us about the dried-up trees due to the salt effect and the whitish soils, they had also told us that this lagoon was full of flamingos. Until now we had not had the opportunity to see any because we had arrived in the afternoon when the crowd was maximum, so the next day we had to get up early and it was worth it. As we got closer to the coast we could see the large colonies of beautiful flamingos ❤️.
Además de advertirnos sobre los árboles resecos por efecto de la sal y los suelos blanquecinos, también nos habían dicho que esta laguna estaba llena de flamencos. Hasta el momento no habíamos tenído la oportunidad de ver ninguno porque habíamos llegado en horas de la tarde cuando la concurrencia era máxima, así que al otro día nos tocó levantarnos temprano y valí la pena. A medida que nos fuimos acercando a la costa pudimos divisar las grandes colonias de hermosos flamencos ❤️.
Unfortunately, every time the flamingos noticed that we were getting a little closer, they would run in a herd, but we could still see them up close. Before this trip, I had only seen a few flamingos at the zoo, but seeing them in their natural habitat was another level. They were there so calm and majestic that we made as much silence as possible as long as they got closer just a little while longer 😅.
Lamentablemente cada vez que los flamencos notaban que nos estabamos acercando un poco, se corrían en manada, pero igual pudimos verlos desde cerca. Antes de este viaje, solo había visto algunos flamencos en el zoológico, pero verlos en su hábitat natural fue otro nivel. Ellos estaban ahí tan tranquilos y majestuosos que hicimos el mayor silencio posible con tal de que se acercaran apenas un rato más 😅.
From what we were able to investigate, flamingos prefer these waters with a high saline content to live and form their colonies. Their pink color is due to the carotenoid pigments of the food they eat, their life expectancy is 40 years and they can measure up to 1.5m tall and weigh up to 4kg. They are very sociable animals among themselves and that is why they all live together in groups of couples, children and friends. They begin to reproduce from 6 years of age and the incubation of their egg lasts a month where both parents build the nest and take care of it. Por lo que pudimos investigar, los flamencos prefieren estas aguas con elevado contenido salino para vivir y formar sus colonias. Su color rosado se debe a los pigmentos carotenoides de la comida que consumen, su esperanza de vida es 40 años y pueden llegar a medir hasta 1.5m de alto y pesar hasta 4 kg. Son animales muy sociables entre ellos y por eso viven todos juntos entre grupos de parejas, hijos y amigos. Se empiezan a reproducir a partir de los 6 años de edad y la incubación de su huevo dura un mes en donde ambos padres construiyen el nido y cuidan de él. Recently, Miramar de Ansunuza and the Mar Chiquita lagoon were named a National Park of Argentina, which seemed like a great decision to me because of the great content of fauna that lives here. Of course tourism also exploits this economically with boat trips and bird watching, but they are all respectful of the environment and of course illegal hunting or possession is punishable. At first I thought we would have to pay for an excursion to see these birds, but luckily, the accommodation we chose was more than privileged ❤️.
Recientemente, se nombró a Miramar de Ansunuza y a la laguna Mar Chiquita como Parque Nacional de Argentina, lo que me pareció una gran decisión por el gran contenido de fauna que aquí habita. Por supuesto el turísmo también explota esto de forma económica con paseos en barco y avistaje de aves, pero todos son respetuosos con el medio ambiente y por supuesto que la caza o tenencia ilegal está penada. Al principio pensaba que tendríamos que pagar alguna excursión para ver a estas aves, pero por suerte, el alojamiento que elegimos fue más que privilegiado ❤️.
When I intended to be in this place so nice and unknown to me, I didn't imagine that the trip would be so beautiful. As I was sitting in front of the water watching these beautiful birds, I felt really lucky and grateful for this opportunity that I had. Visiting one of the places on my bucket list was very satisfying and I have great memories of that morning among the pink birds, happy for everything I learned and thanking them for keeping a safe distance so we could admire them 😅❤️.
Cuando yo intencioné estar en este lugar tan lindo y desconocido para mí, no me imaginé que el viaje sería tan hermoso. Mientras estaba sentada frente al agua observando a esas aves tan lindas, me sentí de verdad afortunada y agradecida por esta oportunidad que tuve. Visitar uno de los lugares en mi lista de deseos fue muy satisfactorio y me llevo un gran recuerdo de esa mañana entre las aves rosadas, feliz por todo lo que aprendí y dándole las gracias por haberse mantenido a una distancia prudente para que podamos seguir admirándolas 😅❤️.

Flamingos! They are too cute.. When I first saw them in a park here in HK.. I was too happy because it was my first time. Never thought I'll be seeing them in real life..
