Argentina - Walk to the tricolor beach of Bahia Las Percas in Chubut: a small trekking to a great place. / Paseo hasta la playa tricolor de Bahía Las Percas en Chubut: pequeño trekking hasta un gran lugar. 😃❤️

One of the best things about this summer trip is that I met a fellow adventurer with the same desire to hike as me. He was my co-worker at the hostel and to this day we still keep in touch, even though each of us is already in our respective cities. But while we were together in the south of Argentina we took advantage of every free moment we had to go for a walk somewhere that included a bit of hiking with a beautiful landscape as a reward. That's how we decided to go to Las Percas Bay in Chubut, on a sunny day that couldn't have given us a more beautiful landscape ❤️.

Una de las mejores cosas de este viaje de verano es que conocí a un compañero de aventuras con las mismas ganas de caminar que yo. Él fue mi compañero de trabajo en el hostel y hasta el día de hoy seguimos manteniendo el contacto, a pesar de que cada uno de nosotros ya está en su respectiva ciudad. Pero mientras estuvimos juntos en el sur de Argentina aprovechamos cada momento libre que teníamos para ir a pasear a algún lugar que incluyera un poco de caminata con un paisaje hermoso como recompensa. Así fue cuando decidimos ir hasta la Bahía Las Percas en Chubut, en un día soleado que no podría habernos regalado un paisaje más genial ❤️.

Visiting the area of Lake Epuyén in Chubut is very easy if you base yourself in El Bolsón, in the neighboring province of Río Negro. With just a bus you can be in this incredible place in just one hour. The only thing to keep in mind is that its frequency is very low (only one bus every 6 hours), so if your intention is to do some trekking, it is best to take the first service at 7 AM. Our idea with my friend was to do a hike that would take us about three hours one way, so we had to get up early to make it happen 😅.

Visitar la zona del Lago Epuyén en Chubut es muy sencillo si haces base en El Bolsón, en la provincia vecina de Río Negro. Con solo un colectivo de línea podes estar en este lugar increíble en apenas una hora. Lo único que hay que tener en cuenta es que su frecuencia es muy baja (un solo bus cada 6 horas), por lo que si tu intención es hacer un poco de trekking, lo mejor es tomar el primer servicio de las 7 AM. Nuestra idea con mi amigo era hacer una caminata que nos llevaría unas tres horas solo de ida, así que tuvimos que madrugar para concretarlo 😅.

After stopping for a while at Puerto Bonito, where we saw beautiful mirrored views of the lake and mountains, we started our main ride to Bahia Las Percas. The trail to this place started with a fairly steep climb that allowed you to admire a large part of Lake Epuyén. Then, the terrain flattened out and dropped back down to shore level through the forest. A fairly easy hike that first took you through another small bay called El Desafío ❤️.

Después de habernos detenido un rato en el Puerto Bonito, donde vimos unas hermosas vistas espejadas del lago y las montañas, emprendimos nuestro paseo principal hasta Bahía Las Percas. El sendero hasta este lugar empezaba con una subida bastante pronunciada que te permitía admirar gran parte del Lago Epuyén. Luego, el terreno se aplanaba y volvía a bajar al nivel de la costa a través del bosque. Una caminata bastante sencilla que primero te hacía pasar por otra pequeña bahía llamada El Desafío ❤️.

We stayed for a while in that bay because we had already been thrilled with the beautiful scenery we could see from there. Lake Epuyén is as big as it is beautiful, and with its somewhat snowy mountains in summer it created a beautiful atmosphere. My friend even went into the icy water: I admit I was a bit hot, but not so hot as to get to that point. (Clarification: my friend is not the dog, he just didn't want to appear in the photos) 😅.

Nos quedamos un rato en esa bahía porque ya nos habíamos emocionado con el paisaje hermoso que veíamos desde allá. El Lago Epuyén es tan grande como hermoso, y con sus montañas algo nevadas en verano creaban un ambiente hermoso. Incluso mi amigo se metió al agua helada: admito que tenía un poco de calor, pero no tanto como para llegar a ese punto. (Aclaración: mi amigo no es el perro, solo que no quería aparecer en las fotos) 😅.

We still had about 4 km to go, so we pushed on to reach the end. The good thing was that since we arrived so early it wasn't even noon yet. There was really no difficulty on this trail, until we had to ford a small river of icy water. I didn't want to get wet, so I had no choice but to take off my shoes and cross. I found it a little strange that there was no small bridge or something like that to cross to the other side, but that indicated that this place is not as touristy as others ❣️.

Todavía nos faltaban unos 4 km de camino, así que avanzamos para llegar hasta el final. Lo bueno era que como llegamos tan temprano todavía ni siquiera era el mediodía. Realmente no había dificultad en este camino, hasta que nos tocó vadear un pequeño río de agua helada. Yo que no quería mojarme no tuve otra opción que sacarme los zapatos y cruzar. Me resultó un poco raro que no existiera un pequeño puente o algo así para cruzar hasta el otro lado, pero eso indicaba que este lugar no es tan turístico como otros ❣️.

The closest thing to a bridge we saw on this trail was a pile of logs to jump over a swamp just before reaching the beach. After that last obstacle and with a total of the three-hour hike indicated on the sign, we arrived at the scenery we wanted to see. My first impression of this place was very exciting because of the incredible color of the water, with three distinct stripes between transparent, turquoise and blue. While Patagonian lakes are always beautiful, this one looked spectacular that day ❤️.

Lo más parecido a un puente que vimos en este camino fue un amontonamiento de troncos para saltar un pantano justo antes de llegar a la playa. Después de ese último obstáculo y con un total de las tres horas de caminata indicadas en el cartel, llegamos al paisaje que queríamos ver. Mi primera impresión sobre este lugar fue muy emocionante por el color increíble que tenía el agua, con tres franjas bien diferenciadas entre transparente, turquesa y azul. Si bien los lagos patagónicos siempre son hermosos, este se veía espectacular ese día ❤️.

Indeed, this bay was not very crowded and when we got there, we were the only visitors. Arriving just at noon, with the sun at its highest point, made everything look bright and clear. The day we were there, just our day off from work, had beautiful weather for us to enjoy from start to finish. And later it ended up being so hot that I had no choice but to go into the water to cool off, although with the coldness of the water, just a few seconds of immersion was enough 😅.

Efectivamente, esta bahía no estaba muy concurrida y cuando llegamos allá, éramos los únicos visitantes. Haber llegado justo en horas del mediodía, con el sol en su punto más alto, hacía que todo se viera brillante y nítido. El día que nos tocó, justo nuestro día libre en el trabajo, tuvo un clima hermoso para que lo disfrutaramos desde principio a fin. Y más tarde terminó haciendo tanto calor que no tuve otra opción que meterme al agua a refrescarme, aunque con lo fría del agua, con solo unos segundos de inmersión ya tuve suficiente 😅.

Lake Epuyén and its visitable spots are beautiful and I loved that Bahía Las Percas has both things to do: some trekking but also a beach to rest. I was also glad that there was a bus service to visit this place. That is one of the best things about traveling in high season, when companies think about visitors and tourism and everything works accordingly. This lake was one of the most beautiful I saw and having a walking companion made it more entertaining, I couldn't have had more fun ❤️.

El Lago Epuyén y sus puntos visitables son hermosos y me encantó que Bahía Las Percas tenga las dos cosas para hacer: algo de trekking pero también playa para descansar. También me alegré de que existiera el servicio de colectivo de línea para ir a visitar este lugar. Esa es una de las mejores cosas de estar de viaje en temporada alta, cuando las empresas piensan en los visitantes y el turismo y todo funciona acorde a eso. Este lago fue uno de los más lindos que vi y tener un compañero de caminata lo hizo más entretenido, no podría haberme divertido más ❤️.
