One of the things I liked most about our first stop in Bolivia was how beautiful and reddish the landscape looked. We had only gone less than 100 km from the border with Argentina, but I felt that everything looked very different from what I had known so far. To be travelling in a new country was something I was very excited about and I wanted to make the most of my stay there, so no matter how late it was getting late for a walk, there was always time for us. Sometimes we left at the right time of daylight, but even that added a special touch to our visits 😃.
Una de las cosas que más me gustó de nuestra primera parada en Bolivia fue lo lindo y rojizo que se veía el paisaje. Solo nos habíamos alejado menos de 100 km desde la frontera con Argentina, pero yo sentía que todo se veía muy distinto a lo que había conocido hasta el momento. Estar viajando en un nuevo país era algo que me tenía muy emocionada y quería aprovechar al máximo mi estadía ahí, por lo que no importaba que tan tarde se nos hiciera para un paseo, para nosotros siempre había tiempo. En ocasiones salíamos con la hora justa de luz, pero incluso eso le daba un toque especial a nuestras visitas 😃.
As I decided to go to Bolivia in less than a week, I consider my trip to be quite improvised but with the right timing. While I had some money saved up to allow me to stay a few days as a guest, I couldn't take that time as a 100% holiday either. While I'm doing my nomadic travels, what sustains me financially is writing this blog and I'm committed to that, so our travel deal with Guest M was that on Wednesdays and Thursdays I really needed time to dedicate to my little things here. Luckily he was very understanding, so those days we always left a bit late to go for a walk 😅.
Como decidí ir a Bolivia en menos de una semana, considero que mi viaje fue bastante improvisado pero con el timing justo. Si bien tenía algo de dinero ahorrado como para permitirme estar unos días como huésped, tampoco podía tomarme ese tiempo como vacaciones al 100%. Mientras estoy haciendo mis viajes nómades, lo que me sostiene económicamente es escribir en este blog y estoy comprometida con eso, por lo que nuestro trato de viaje con Huésped M fue que los miércoles y jueves si o sí necesitaba tiempo como para dedicarme a mis cosillas aquí. Por suerte fue muy comprensivo, así que esos días siempre salíamos algo tarde a pasear 😅.
Anyway, this didn't make me feel bad either, because he used this time to get in touch with his family, or to take the little Suzuki to the mechanic. He had bought the car in Chile for 4000 euros and it is a 1997 model, so it needed a lot of maintenance along the way. He did not neglect this issue, and so the car never left us on foot: we literally used the 4x4 function to get into any kind of terrain, in order to challenge the vehicle and we always had good results 😃.
De todos modos, esto tampoco me hacía sentir mal porque en ese tiempo él aprovechaba para ponerse en contacto con su familia, o para llevar al pequeño Suzuki al mecánico. Ese auto lo había comprado en Chile por 4000 euros y es un modelo del año 1997, por lo que en todo el recorrido necesitó bastantes mantenimientos. Él no descuidaba este asunto, y así fue que el auto nunca nos dejó a pie: literalmente usamos la función 4x4 para meternos en cualquier tipo de terreno, a modo de desafiar el vehículo y siempre tuvimos buenos resultados 😃.
On one of those late afternoon days, we wanted to explore a bit of Tupiza, the first town we visited in Bolivia. On our first day we had been busy getting money and food, so the second day was used for sightseeing, after we had fulfilled our engagements, of course. Looking for recommendations we found a place called Cañón del Duende, 9 km from our accommodation. When we headed there, we found a beautiful mountainous area, which with the golden hour on the doorstep, looked even more beautiful 😃.
En uno de esos días de ir a pasear tarde, quisimos ir a explorar un poco de Tupiza, el primer pueblo que visitamos en Bolivia. En nuestro primer día de estadía nos habíamos ocupado de conseguir dinero y comida, por lo que el segundo día lo usamos para pasear, después de que cumplir con nuestros compromisos, claro. Buscando recomendaciones encontramos un lugar llamado Cañón del Duende, a 9 km de nuestro hospedaje. Cuando nos dirigimos ahí, nos encontramos con una linda zona montañosa, que con la golden hour en puerta, se veía aún más hermosa 😃.
We took a short walk in the canyon as the sun went down and we could see how the colours were slowly transforming. It was a bit late for a long trek, so after seeing everything a bit more closely, we decided to continue exploring other places with the little car. The roads were gravel and quite challenging, but we knew that we would be able to get through them without any problems 😃.
Hicimos una pequeña caminata en el cañón a medida que el sol bajaba y pudimos ver como los colores se transformaban de a poco. Era algo tarde para hacer un trekking muy largo, por lo que después de ver todo un poco más de cerca, decidimos continuar explorando otros lugares con el autito. Los caminos se veían de ripio y bastante desafiantes, pero sabíamos que íbamos a poder atravesarlos sin problemas 😃.
We had seen on the map another place only 4 km from where we were, named Devil's Gate. We headed there without knowing exactly what would be there because we didn't even have much of a signal to google, so getting there was a surprise. Luckily, it was a good one because it was a very nice place with a river and a bridge, where we could still see some sunlight and orange and reddish mountains 💕.
Habíamos visto en el mapa otro lugar a solo 4 km de donde estábamos, nombrado como Puerta del Diablo. Nos dirigimos hasta ahí sin saber exactamente qué habría porque ni siquiera teníamos mucha señal como para googlear, así que llegar ahí fue una sorpresa. Por suerte, fue de las buenas porque se trataba de un lugar muy lindo con un río y un puente, en donde todavía podíamos seguir viendo un poco de luz del sol y montañas anaranjadas y rojizas 💕.
We stayed and took advantage of the brightness of the day as much as we could, while walking a bit along the river. Being there at that moment was something I hadn't even imagined a few days ago, but it was happening. Sometimes improvised plans like this can work out well, thanks to the fact that fate can cross you with the right people. I was glad that I was able to expand my horizons and keep walking, without having to neglect my responsibilities: everything fell into place perfectly ❤️.
Nos quedamos aprovechando la claridad del día todo lo que pudimos, mientras caminábamos un poco al costado del río. Estar ahí en ese momento era algo que yo ni me había imaginado algunos días atrás, pero así estaba siendo. A veces los planes improvisados como este pueden salir bien, gracias a que el destino puede cruzarte con las personas correctas. Me alegré por haber podido expander mis horizontes y seguir paseando, sin tener que descuidar mis responsabilidades: todo se acomodó perfectamente ❤️.
