In the end, our stay at the Salar de Uyuni was as productive as it could have been. After traveling more than 700 km on this improvised trip to Bolivia, I couldn't believe I was there, but since I was there, I wanted to do everything that tourists do. When we decided to go to the salt flat to spend the night, our decision was not to do it on Incahuasi Island since we had to pay to camp there, but the next day when we were leaving and passed by it, curiosity got the better of us. If everyone went there, it must have something interesting 😅.
Al final de cuentas, nuestras estadía en el Salar de Uyuni fue todo lo productivo que pudo haber sido. Después de recorrer más de 700 km en este viaje improvisado a Bolivia, yo no podía creer estar ahí, pero ya que estaba, quería hacer todo lo que hacen los turistas. Cuando decidimos que iriamos al salar a pasar la noche, nuestra decisión fue no hacerlo en la Isla Incahuasi ya que había que pagar por acampar ahí, pero al día siguiente cuando nos estábamos yendo y pasamos cerca de ella, nos terminó ganando la curiosidad. Si todos iban ahí, era porque algo interesante tenía que tener 😅.
The day before we had passed by this island and it was very busy. Dozens of vehicles were parked near it, with tourists from all over arriving to take their tours. On the classic tours to the salt flats this island is a mandatory stop, after having visited the other sites such as the Plaza de las Banderas or the salt hotel. But the next day after camping, Guest M and I had started our day very early because we wanted to see the sunrise and by the time we arrived at the island, before 9 AM after breakfast, no other visitors had arrived yet 😃.
El día anterior habíamos pasado cerca de esta isla y estaba muy concurrida. Decenas de vehículos estaban estacionados cerca de ellas, con turistas de todas partes llegando para hacer sus paseos. En los clásicos tours al salar esta isla es una parada obligatoria, después de haber visitado los otros sitios como la plaza de las banderas o el hotel de sal. Pero al día siguiente después de acampar, Huésped M y yo habíamos empezado nuestro día muy temprano porque quisimos ver el amanecer y para la hora que llegamos a la isla, antes de 9 AM después de desayunar, todavía no había llegado ningún otro visitante 😃.
The island was so quiet and quiet that it made you want to visit it. The entrance fee was 30 bolivianos, only $5, and with that you had access to a trail that runs through the place, the bathrooms, a museum and later, a small store to buy food. In the end, the night before we didn't want to pay to camp there, but we paid to visit the island during the day anyway. The rustic island we had found to camp on was nice, but this one was definitely more aesthetically pleasing 😃.
Con la isla tan tranquila y sin tanto bullicio, si que daban ganas de ir a visitarla. La entrada a ella costaba 30 pesos bolivianos, solo $5 y con eso se tenía acceso a un sendero que recorre el lugar, los baños, un museo y más tarde, una pequeña tienda para comprar comida. Al final, la noche anterior no quisimos pagar para acampar ahí, pero igualmente pagamos para visitar la isla de día. La isla rústica que habíamos conseguido para acampar estuvo muy bien, pero esta definitivamente era más estética 😃.
Incahuasi Island has a circular trail that you can follow and allows you to observe the salt flat with a 360° view. It is a short trek, about 40 minutes, on a very simple and marked trail. The interesting thing is that this island is full of giant cacti, which makes it very picturesque. This salt flat used to be a lake millions of years ago and being able to see the coast of the island with salt instead of water was something very curious 😃.
La Isla Incahuasi tiene un sendero circular que se puede seguir y te permite observar el salar con una vista 360°. Es un trekking corto, de unos 40 minutos, en un sendero muy sencillo y marcado. Lo interesante es que esta isla está llena de cactus gigantes, lo que la hace muy pintoresca. Este salar solía ser un lago hace millones de años y poder ver la costa de la isla con sal en lugar de agua era algo muy curioso 😃.
On the day of our visit, we were lucky enough to have the clearest day ever: there were no clouds and the sun was very bright, making the landscape look clear and beautiful. We had to remember to wear sunglasses and sunscreen regularly, because the reflection on the salt would burn you right away. And on this short trek, on top of that you had to be careful not to bump into any cactus and get hurt by its thorns 😂.
Para el día de nuestra visita, tuvimos la suerte de tener el día más despejado de todos: no había ninguna nube y el sol estaba muy brillante, lo que hacía que el paisaje se vea claro y hermoso. No teníamos que olvidarnos de usar lentes de sol y protector solar regularmente, porque el reflejo en la sal te quemaba enseguida. Y en este pequeño trekking, además de eso tenías que tener cuidado de no chocarte con ningún cactus y lastimarte con sus espinas 😂.
The end of the hike took you to the top of the island, to an area called Plaza 1° de Agosto, where there were some seats to rest a while and look at the salt flat in all directions. This place was nice, but somewhat small. I imagine that when the island is full of tourists it must be very uncomfortable to walk around or take a photo here. I was glad I had gone early in the morning when we had the whole place to ourselves 😃.
El fin de la caminata te llevaba hasta la cima de la isla, a un sector llamado plaza 1° de agosto, donde habían unos asientos para descansar un rato y ver el salar en todas direcciones. Este lugar era lindo, pero algo pequeño. Me imagino que cuando la isla está llena de turistas debe ser muy incómodo pasear o tomarse alguna foto acá. Me alegré de haber ido a la mañana temprano cuando teníamos todo el lugar para nosotros solos 😃.
Something I really liked about this top view is that from it you could see the marks left by the cars on the salt flat. Before going, we read a lot of recommendations to bring offline maps to know where to go. Despite there being no marked streets, the maps show marked "routes" to get from one point to another and this could be seen from there. From a distance, the tracks left by the cars look darker than the rest of the salt, but at ground level, nothing is seen to be stained, so this was an optical effect produced by the very bright sun 😃.
Algo que me gustó mucho de esta vista superior es que desde ella se podían ver las marcas que los autos dejaban en el salar. Antes de ir, leímos un montón de recomendaciones de llevar mapas sin conexión para saber a donde dirigirse. A pesar de no haber calles delimitadas, en los mapas aparecen "rutas" marcadas para ir de un punto a otro y esto podía notarse desde ahí. A lo lejos, las huellas que dejan los autos se ven más oscuras que el resto de la sal, pero estando al nivel del suelo, no se ve que nada esté manchado, por lo que esto era un efecto óptico producido por el sol tan brillante 😃.
In the second half of the walk, already returning to the beginning of the circular path, there is a detour that leads to some stone caves. I am not a big fan of caves because they scare me, but we went in anyway and even climbed a bit in them. In addition to caves, there were stone arches formed by erosion. This part was also nice and when we climbed up one of the arches we could see the little car waiting for us alone on the coast of the island 😅.
En la segunda mitad del camnino, ya regresando al inicio del sendero circular, se encuentra un desvío que te dirige a unas cuevas de piedra. Yo no soy muy fan de las cuevas porque me dan miedo, pero igualmente nos metimos y hasta trepamos un poco en ellas. Además de cuevas, habían arcos de piedra formados por la erosión. Esta parte también era linda y subiendonos a uno de los arcos pudimos ver al pequeño autito esperándonos solo en la costa de la isla 😅.
To end our visit, we spent some time in the museum, which was not that big but still had some interesting elements about the culture of the inhabitants of Bolivia. I think that after all, the entrance to this island was well justified because we found a nice place, well kept, with plenty of informative signs, and the most important thing after a day of camping in nature: clean bathrooms. I also liked camping alone in the other place and going there in the morning when there was no one else: another plan with perfect timing 😃.
Como fin de nuestra visita, pasamos un rato por el museo, que no era tan grande pero igualmente tenía algunos elementos interesantes sobre la cultura de los habitantes de Bolivia. Creo que después de todo, la entrada a esta isla estuvo bien justificada porque nos encontramos con un lugar lindo, bien cuidado, con bastante cartelería informativa, y lo más importante para después de un día de camping en la naturaleza: baños limpios. Igualmente me gustó acampar solos en el otro lugar e ir ahí por la mañana cuando no había nadie más: otro plan con el timing perfecto 😃.
This visit to the Salar de Uyuni was very complete and I was glad to have visited this place. I must point out that having been in a private vehicle made everything much easier, as well as being economical and fun because we were able to get to places inside the salt flat where there was no one. This trip is one of the coolest we did in Bolivia and I have a very special memory of it, as well as an experience that is difficult to beat. Nature is incredible, and the fact that it continues to surprise me is one of the things I like the most 💘.
Esta visita al Salar de Uyuni fue muy completa y me alegré por haber conocido este lugar. Debo destacar que haber estado en un vehículo particular hizo todo mucho más fácil, además de económico y divertido porque pudimos llegar hasta lugares dentro del salar en los que no había nadie. Este paseo es uno de los más geniales que hicimos en Bolivia y me llevo un recuerdo muy especial de él, además de una experiencia difícil de superar. La naturaleza es increíble, y que me siga sorprendiendo es una de las cosas que más me gusta 💘.

I love all those giant cacti. I think also that those plants makes that place beautiful. It is good to know that there is still a place surviving from harm of those who don't love nature and how locals from there protecting it. Its combination of scenic landscapes 😊, exceptional plant life and significant history gives the memorable experience for all those who visit.❤

Hey te hago una pregunta un poco tonta pero no logro verlo muy bien en el teléfono. El reflejo blanco que se ve es arena con sal no? Me refiero a que no es agua?
Esto me acaba de causar super curiosidad, corrígeme si no estoy mal. Desde lo alto de la montaña lo que se ve es arena no? O sea se ve tan delosado y como si estuvieras en el lejano oeste, eso quiere decir que en algún momento hubo agua allí a montones y ya no.
Además lo que más me da curiosidad los cactus sabes, tienen el aspecto de cactus de paramo, pero se ve un lugar con mucho sol y caluroso.
De igual forma que Genial que lo hayan disfrutado, se ve increíble esa ruta de senderismo, cuando atraviesas la montaña. Pfff brutal
