After travelling for several kilometres straight, we had decided to take the day to use our legs. The city of Tupiza has some very beautiful surroundings, but we wanted to take advantage of that time to get to know it better. Beyond the activities that can be done in the city, this place has a few mountains nearby to explore. We did a bit of trekking during the morning but since we still had a bit more energy, we also walked to another viewpoint that had been recommended to us ❤️.
Después de estar viajando durante varios kilómetros seguidos, habíamos decidido tomarnos el día para usar nuestras piernas. La ciudad de Tupiza tiene unos alrededores muy hermosos, pero queríamos aprovechar ese tiempo para poder conocerla más de cerca. Más allá de las actividades que se pueden hacer en la ciudad, este lugar tiene unas cuantas montañas cerca para ir a conocer. Hicimos un poco de trekking durante la mañana pero como todavía teníamos un poco más de energía, también caminamos hasta otro mirador que nos habían recomendado ❤️.
Throughout this trip we were very lucky with the weather, as every day was nice and sunny, and in Bolivia, quite hot. In the early hours of the day, the sun was quite strong, but in the afternoon the temperatures became more pleasant and could be enjoyed a bit more. Hiking in the mountains was nice, but visiting the city in the afternoon with a bit of a cool breeze was also nice ❤️.
Durante todo este viaje tuvimos mucha suerte con el clima que nos tocó, ya que todos los días fueron lindos, soleados y en Bolivia, bastante calurosos. En las primeras horas del día, el sol era bastante fuerte, pero por la tarde las temperaturas se volvían más agradables y se podían disfrutar un poco más. Caminar en las montañas estaba bueno, pero visitar la ciudad por la tarde con un poco de brisa fresca también era agradable ❤️.
On our day of walking, in the morning we took the opportunity to visit the classic viewpoint with the cross that is found in almost all places with mountains. This viewpoint was quite high and it took us less than an hour to hike, during which we covered 2 km with a 200-meter gradient. When we finished walking around there it was still early, so we headed to a second viewpoint in the city. The thing is that this one was on the completely opposite side of where we were at that moment. But it was our day to walk, so we didn't complain 😅.
En nuestro día de caminata, por la mañana aprovechamos para visitar el clásico mirador con la cruz que hay en casi todos los lugares con montañas. Este mirador era bastante alto y nos tomó un trekking de menos de una hora, en los que recorrimos 2 km con 200 metros de desnivel. Cuando terminamos de pasear por aí todavía era temprano, así que nos dirigimos a un segundo mirador de la ciudad. La cuestión es que este quedaba en el lado completamente opuesto de donde estabamos en ese momento. Pero era nuestro día de caminar, así que no nos quejamos 😅.
Getting to the second viewing point took us another 2.5 km through the city, plus just 900 meters that we had to climb up there. This viewing point is right in the middle of the city, so it is a bit more prepared for tourism. Once at the top, there is a statue of Jesus adorning the place. During the walk we also saw some small monuments, recounting the Stations of the Cross. I am not very religious, but it is always nice to see these complements along the way 😃.
Llegar hasta el segundo mirador nos tomó otros 2,5 km atravesando la ciudad, más solo 900 metros que tuvimos que subir hasta ahí arriba. Este mirador queda justo en medio de la ciudad, por lo que está preparado un poco más para el turismo. Una vez arriba, hay una estatua de Jesús adornando el lugar. Durante el recorrido también vimos algunos pequeños monumentos, relatando el via crucis. No soy muy religiosa, pero siempre es lindo ver estos complementos en el camino 😃.
From up there the city looked beautiful, and right at sunset, everything looked even more orange. From there we could also see the Cerro de la Cruz that we had visited earlier. The city of Tupiza brings together the things that I like to see in one place, which are picturesque mountains and urban movement. Having enough energy to walk to this place was also good, although we did want to get on a "tuk-tuk" to take us faster 😅.
Desde ahí arriba la ciudad se veía hermosa, y justo a la hora del atardecer, todo se veía aún más anaranjado. Desde ahí también pudimos ver el cerro de la cruz que habíamos visitado más temprano. La ciudad de Tupiza reune las cosas que me gusta ver en un lugar, que son montañas pintorescas y movimiento urbano. Haber tenido la energía suficiente como para ir caminando hasta este lugar también estuvo bueno, aunque ganas de subirnos a un "tuc-tuc" que nos lleve más rápido no nos faltaron 😅.
I really enjoyed making this stop in Tupiza, the first destination I visited in Bolivia. Being in a new country was quite an adventure for me, and I felt like a real tourist to whom everything seems very new. This trip was a very good coincidence and everything conspired in my favor so that I was there at that moment. Knowing what things are like on the other side of the border was very enriching for me: I was glad I made the good decision to go ❤️.
Me gustó mucho hacer esta parada en Tupiza, el primer destino que visité en Bolivia. Estar en un nuevo país fue toda una aventura para mí, y me sentía como una real turista a la que todo le parece muy nuevo. Este viaje representó una casualidad muy buena y todo conspiró a favor mío para que estuviera ahí en ese momento. Conocer cómo son las cosas del otro lado de la frontera fue muy enrriquecedor para mí: me alegré por haber tomado la buena decisión de ir ❤️.

What’s the weather like there? Bolivia is one of the countries that fascinates me the most for traveling.
Weather is dry and hot, but when you go up in high mountains, it's very cold :)
A great experience. Reaching a place as high as 200 meters to 900 meters by walking alone is actually a new experience. It is exciting if such moments are created in the midst of nature and during tourism. It is incredibly beautiful to see the city from such a height. Although the sun was shining brightly in the morning, the place was very hot. However, the cool weather in the afternoon creates a pleasant atmosphere which is really great.
