Greetings dear friends of #HaveYouBeenHere! We continue the tour of the beautiful city of Maracay on the two wheels of my bike and today I want to show you a point that is undoubtedly a reference in the city and that I particularly love, because it transmits me a lot of peace and serenity. The point that we will know today is the Plaza Bolivar of Maracay.
This monument is the largest not only in Venezuela, but also in Latin America and was inaugurated in 1930 by General Juan Vicente Gomez, to commemorate the centenary of the death of the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
It is 320 meters long and 106 meters wide and has an equestrian replica of our Liberator. The Plaza was declared a national monument in 1994. It has an ample space of green areas that constitute a vegetable lung in the center of the city and allows us to appreciate a varied flora and peculiar iguanas and birds, in the same way we find several illuminated fountains, benches and gazebos that offer to the Maracayeros a place for the enjoyment.

It is common to see families enjoying this place on weekends and for the safety of all the inhabitants, the place has the exclusive surveillance of a tourist police. The Plaza Bolívar is part of the Simón Bolívar Civic Complex, together with the Hotel Jardín, the Páez Garrison, the Army Technical School, the former Central Hospital and the Opera Theater.
In front of the square, you can find the Old Garden Hotel, built by the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva with neoclassical and Renaissance influence, at the time was the headquarters of the State Government and is currently the headquarters of the TeleAragua television station and the Aragüeña 99.5 FM radio station.
Also, in the surroundings you can appreciate the Páez Cavalry Barracks, which was originally the headquarters of two military barracks. The function became another during the government of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, who turned them into the headquarters of the Basic School of the National Armed Forces. On April 15, 1994, the entire building was declared a national historic monument. It currently serves as the headquarters of the Bolivarian Military Technical Academy. In a transversal sense we find the emblematic Opera House of which I have already spoken to you in the past days.
It is really a privilege to ride a bicycle through the streets of my hometown, Maracay, and find a national historic monument such as the Plaza Bolivar. If you are from Maracay or you are visiting the city, I recommend you to visit it, you will have a great time.
