Brac island - the home of the famous Golden Horn beach πŸ–οΈπŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

in Worldmappin β€’ 3 years ago (edited)

The Croatian island of Brac is the island of stones, the island of golden beaches, the island of sun and the island of crystal-clear waters. It is the largest island on the Dalmatian coast, lying only a short ferry ride from Split.

The island of Brac (pronounced brach) is internationally famous for the Golden Horn beach (Zlatni rat beach). The world-famous dreamy beach is located on the southern part of the island, a pleasant walk along the seashore from the Bol town. The beach is shaped in a unique crescent shape that extends almost 500 meters into the blue sea. It is even more spectacular as the shape of this pebble beach changes due to sea currents and tides. The beach has been repeatedly named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by various beach assessors.

If you really want to see the beach in whole it’s beauty you have to visit it out season, since in summer months it is very crowded. I was on Brac twice, both times in summer, and I guess that is also one of the reasons why I wasn’t very impressed by the Golden Horn beach. The fact is that if you really want to see the beauty of this beach you have to look at it from the above, and the best view is from the top of Vidova Gora mountain. We skipped the hike πŸ˜…πŸŒž and just enjoyed a refreshing jump into the sea.

Bol town is also one of the most popular locations on the Adriatic coast for making windsurfer. You can guess why😁..

As mentioned, the Golden Horn beach is located quite near to Bol town, with its romantic old town and a small fishing port.

My favourite place on the island is the town of Pucisca (quite hard pronunciations also for us 😊). Small and quite town located on the northern part of the island, nestled in a deep cove. I was mostly impressed by the stone houses. The town is known for its culture of stone masonry that is still preserved in the local Stone Mason School.

The white stone of Brac, also one of the symbols of the island, is an integrant part of Brac’s identity. The skilful hands of artisans have created beautiful buildings, works of art and objects for everyday use. The knowledge was cultivated and transferred through generations. It symbolizes the men of Brac, their perseverance and the struggle for survival on dry and rocky soil.
This snow-white limestone was used to build some of the world-famous buildings like the White House in Washington, the Reichstag in Berlin, the Hofburg in Vienna and Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Traveling through the inner part of the island you can cross many smaller stone villages, my favourite was Lozisca. A small village of stone houses lies on a slope and is surrounded by olive trees and grapevines. The most eye-catching building is the large parish church of St. John and Paul (built in 1820).

We also visited the picturesque village of Milna, in the south-west of the island. By local legend, Milna owes its name to its sheltered position in the bay. "Mille navi" is Latin for "a thousand ships", which in Roman times took shelter in the bay from storms with strong winds.

Postira is for many visitors one of the nicest locations on the island for the summer vacation. As other villages on the island charm the visitor with it stone houses, small caffes, traditional tavernas and numerous beautiful beaches in the surroundings.

Beside the already mentioned Golden Horn, Brac offers many beautiful beaches, some are more visited some less, but I’m sure that everyone can find something he will like.

We were staying at an apartment in the town of Sutivan. The location of the apartment was great, since we have only a few steps to the beach. Nothing can beat a morning coffee with a sea view. Sutivan is located on the northern shore of the island, very small and calm villages, with nice stone houses, few restaurants, bars, and shops and with a small harbour. Just perfect for a relaxed vacation.

If you're in a romantic mood 😍, you and your loved one can admire the most breathtaking sunset in the world (in my opinion). If you're not in that mode, then you can take some beautiful photos πŸ“·.

Croatia is really a wonderful place has so many nice beaches I really love Croatia

Yes, Croatia really is nice. The beaches are great, from the mainland to the last island 🌞. Thanks for stopping by @noemilunastorta!

This place is absolutely wonderful! 😍 We have a place like this here in Argentina, the entire area of Bariloche and Villa La Angostura is like this. Now I've become a fan of beaches with turquoise waters. Glad you were able to go there β™₯️.

As I have seen in other reviews, Croatia is really amazing, especially the coastal area, and I have visited a few places in Croatia, for example I went to Zadar, saw a bit of Split and Pula,

I totally agree with you, Croatia is a really wonderful place to spend your summer holidays, especially the coastal area with islands,....Thanks for stopping by!

Wow the water is so clean. I love that it looks like a big lake with the mountain in the distance, that musts make the water calmer, making it a great place for ocean activities.

The sea is really crystal clear and you can watch the fish swimming in the depths just by looking at them. Thanks for stopping by!

I am truly amazed by the pristine waters near the coastal area of Croatia. You took amazing shots of such a picturesque place. It made me more excited of summer πŸ€—πŸ˜

Hello @lifewithera, thanks for your nice comment! I also fall in summer mood when I check out photos from the seaside and I can't wait to jump in the sea and go for a swim. Don't worry, summer is coming 😎🌞See you around πŸ–οΈ

Hi Miljo, thanks for sharing this. I love your pictures of the sunset. There is barely anything as calming and beautiful as the setting sun above the sea when the colours start changing :-)

Hi, thanks for your nice comment and for stopping by. For me, this is also the most beautiful time of the day, when everything calms down, the beaches become almost empty and you can enjoy the sunset in peace.

A very complete place, in one destination you can enjoy all the natural beauty of God's grace.
Surely many things can be done and enjoyed by tourists in this place.
Hi, @miljo76, is the fishing spot also tempting there?

The sea is full of various fish, you just have to catch them and drag them out πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by!

enjoy this beautiful moment😊
