I recently spent two days in Pinar del Rio. I traveled about 100 miles from Havana to there. While I was in that city I barely had time to walk around its streets, because I was busy with this. But... there was a moment when the hivers and friends @eduardo900613 and @mariolisrnaranjo invited me to try Pinar's Coppelia ice cream.
It was very funny to me because they would say, come on, run, it's empty. This means that there is no line to get through, and you can arrive, enter freely, sit down and order your ice cream without much hassle.
I immediately understood why, just by looking at the board announcing the ice cream flavors and specialties. They had only two, soursop and caramel, and I think the ice cream is a bit expensive in relation to the salaries of state workers.
This photo is the proof of the empty room and I took it before settling into that emblematic chair, of all Coppelia in Cuba, including the Havana one.
I confess that I only enjoyed the company of my friends in that place because the quality of the ice cream was pitiful. When we finished, they continued on their way home and I went walking alone, back to the headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association (HSA), where we had the workshop. And here comes the part of the golden hour when...
I got lost.
What happens is that even if they tell me seven times the way to go, I always end up getting lost. My sense of direction is very bad.
{That photo of the columns is cheating, because at that point I already knew where I was. But I really liked it because you see a lot of portals like this one, that people take advantage of to get out of the sun while walking.}
From this portal, let's go back in time to tell you what happened to me.
Well, I had two options left, ask the locals... and of course I asked, because people say that by asking you get to Rome; hahaha, they say that, don't they?
However, I didn't want to go that far, at least for the moment, and so I caught some scenes as I made my way back to the little house next to Café Ortúzar (We'll get to the part where I tell you why I'm mentioning this now).
I was so busy taking pictures that I didn't even remember I could use google map. That's the Post Office on the street... (forget it) :D
Here I must have turned right at this same corner, but... I don't remember either.
That pink thing you see over there is a state bakery, without bread. Lots of signs. Oh, I hate those signs that don't add anything.
A little further ahead, there lives someone who fixes shoes.
And another street to cross.
At this point I kept thinking about how many old American cars there are all over Cuba. Not only in Havana, where they have made them a tourist attraction. I don't know if it works in Pinar del Río as it does in the capital.
I also stopped to look at the sky and thought nonsense, verses, music, distant and inappropriate things indeed, because I had to pay attention, lest a car run over me.
On the back glass it says it's a '56 Buick. The previous one must be a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air? I don´t know. Tell me, please.
I don't know much about cars, my thing is winged and fantastic creatures. These days I've been dreaming that I have a horse, I mean, a Ferrari :D (dreaming doesn't cost anything, does it?)
I was still disoriented and although I recognized this park and an office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, from a time when I came to work in these surroundings, I did not know where I had to go and decided to ask where Café Ortúzar was located. It's a great reference, everybody knows it and I have a lot of pictures of that place. And right next door is the HSA.
I think there is a WIFI zone there because everyone was so focused on their smartphones. One old man told me to keep walking in the direction I was going, and ask further down the road. That would be to the right of the photo... straight ahead there, captain, my captain.
:)
There were not many people on the street. It was the golden hour for me, but the Pinareños I guess were very busy getting dinner, bathing, helping their children to do their homework, because at any moment they could turn off the electricity. They are having power cuts almost every day.
I was going completely the wrong direction until a man told me to go back to a yellow house in the distance and turn right.
The car and the girl crossing the street were coming from over there, but I swerved a bit because behind me I found a cement canvas.
I was there for a while photographing the wall and its details, but now we can't linger here, because the golden hour will end and we have to see something there in the direction of Café Ortúzar, before that happens.
Let's go to the yellow house.
Now turn right.
Do you remember? 😂 Hurry up!
And here we are going to stay a few seconds waiting for what has to happen... let's walk just a few steps forward. It is a secret that I am going to tell you: time travelers can sometimes change things, but at the end of the day something must remain intact for them to be able to return to that journey. Listen carefully, they are coming.
I love this scene, I would relive it many times if I go back to this temporal trip.
It's that I was mounting a great story for a photographic essay in red and I had in my arsenal a...
This is how my best friend, Li, kept it almost intact for me.
But I didn't do it (the Red-Essay). Time often plays me dirty. I have to tell you I love Nutella but there were other people who also enjoy it so I was very decent and ate just a little.
Now we can go drink something at the Ortúzar Café, why not?
What would you like?
The bartender is very kind and surely he can prepare what you ask him.
Golden hour + coffee or a cocktail (or just Nutella) + a good company = Perfect combination for happiness.
There are a few stories left to tell, but for today that's enough.

You saw pretty views and took pretty photos while being lost hehe..it was a nice experience I guess?
The pleasant experience of getting lost hahaha... when my friend's mother was waiting for me to come home for dinner. There are some good pictures, 😬, only a few, I couldn't even use my camera. Everything was with my cell phone.
Good morning... I need to sleep.
Thank you @jane1289 🐣
I understand your perspective regarding the quality of the ice cream. It's unfortunate when a beloved treat doesn't meet our expectations. However, it's heartwarming to hear that despite that, you were able to find joy in the company of your friends. Sometimes, it's the shared moments and laughter that truly make an experience memorable.
Hello, ice cream is my favourite sweet. That's why bad and all as it was, half melted, I made it disappear in an act of magic into my stomach.
And I agree with you... but not sometimes, I would say all the time, what matters is to share and laugh. Having a good time that remains in our memory to tell and relive it.
Thank you, 😉
I wanted to say that the walk has to be amazing if it began with a visit to the ice cream shop and then I saw your comment that it wasn't that good... 😒 But, start with ice cream, finish with Nutella... That sounds like a dream... 😂
I like those murals/graffiti and I'm always amazed how people in Cuba care about those beautiful old cars!
Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the walk!
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!
🫤😂 the ice cream... anyway it fell into my belly, I would have enjoyed it more if it was quality, I mean... creamy, well frozen, with syrups that I could choose the flavour to put on it, with variety of ice cream flavours for me to choose tiramisu, kiwi, almond or chocolate, which are my favourites... I wish there had been cake to go with the ice cream... so many requirements for the sake of cultivating fatness, you see 🤣😂. And well, Nutella!!! the greatest thing in life 😋🫠🫣.
I'm saving that mural for an upcoming post. It's interesting, you'll see.
Cars... If you only knew that not many of them retain their original parts. There where you see them, they have engines under the bonnet of modern cars, whose parts are more readily available.
Thanks to you for visiting my blog.
I was watching some documentaries about Cuba, but I thought that most of those cars are repaired... Didn't know that they are "tuning" them... I understand that most parts have to be changed as time is doing its part...
There is a Club of classic car owners who only use original parts on their vehicles. Of course this is very expensive, they repair them or import them.
But there is a big part that are the ones that work as cabs for people like me (boteros, we call them), those, they have engines from Lada, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, whatever... and you only see them on the outside, so old and classic, but they are really something else.
I'm not saying that those who can't buy those parts, or can't find a way to re-engineer, don't repair the original engines. They have to do it, they have no choice. But those also entail a lot of expense. And remember that these are hard times, serious fuel problems. They preferred to convert those cars so that they could run on oil, for example, and not gasoline.
But why do I talk so much about cars if I don't know anything about this hahaha... I have only heard some things around, on the street, from the cab drivers themselves.
Heheehe... It looks like you are a "hidden old cars fan"! 😃
Thanks for sharing the info! In either case (original parts, non-original parts), it's great to see those cars on the streets! Much better than these new, plastic toys... :P
They look nice, yes. And they give a touch to the cities stopped in time.
Bye... ;)

Jajaja... Pues vamos a Pinar.
Sorry you got lost, but it must have felt like a little adventure. I'm happy you enjoyed my city and could get some nice photos of it. The golden hour as you call it it's when I like the city the most, the empty streets make me appreciate the beauty of it even more. Greetings ✌️
You know that I was walking in the wrong direction, up Maceo Park... And where would I end up if I didn't ask? Surely to the Luis Lazo road. Hahahahahah... I don't even know what I'm saying.
That light is beautiful, I enjoyed it a lot, what a pity I couldn't do a better photographic job because of the rush. There will be more time.
;)
Yep, definitely Luis Lazo 😳🤣.
We'd love to have you back here 🥰
😂
Soon, Li says the same. I hope there will be more Nutella for my return. Hahaha... And ice cream.
It was nice seeing my city from your eyes 😊, it looks beautiful 😍
I'm so glad you feel that way 🤩.
Greetings/

Seems that I don't know much about them either. 😂
I couldn't even convince the mechanic that there is some weird with mine.
Un mojito, por favor!
So nice that you could enjoy the company of dear people, not even a bad ice cream can spoil a good time, or getting lost a bit after it ;)
No one has come around here to tell me that the car models are not what I said they are... So... I don't know what to think. My driving licence has expired. Everything is a mess, except when I get lost.
😂
Mojito coming up!!!
And what are you doing ordering alcohol? 🤣😵💫
You know fun is my forte after I manage to leave the house 😉
Thank you 🎹👋🏼
Necesitaba algo para desinfectar la herida esa 😆
Pues ahora pomada antibiótica 🤐
Todo va a estar bien. Solo descansa.
Hoy. Mañana, ya no sé jajaja
Hi, it's always so nice your way here through the hive. I would have liked to go to Coppelia. It was good that you got lost in the city so that you could take his pulse and as a good reporter you will take the necessary photos. You finally made it to Rome the way you usually do: by asking. A pleasure your visit I hope you visit and I can serve as hostess.
Oh girl, but you had to go because there would be no transport. Next time we go to Coppelia and I'll visit you there where you live.
Gracias, ;)

Saluda a tu mamá, dónde anda ella metida?

Ice cream bar was looking almost empty that's the reason of getting ice cream without any hassle. Moreover, I also get lost so many times, even if my friends always mention me the way to go.Means my direction sense is same as yours 😀😂😂😂
We have to start using a GPS hahaha
Ay! nani, we suffer from the same disease, I still get lost in two steps🤣 I didn't bring a built-in gps. Can you imagine this guajira driving in Havana?🤣😂🤣
