One of the things I have always loved is the opportunity to travel. On the 21st of April this year, I went on a trip. The mission this time was to get to know one of the most iconic places in Venezuela: Tovar Colony, a small village of German and Venezuelan descent located in the municipality Tovar, Aragua State.
Few people know that Venezuela between 1528 and 1546 was administered by a family of bankers from the German Empire, today Germany. From that time on, the ties of the former province of Venezuela, later the Captaincy General, and the republican form in its different forms have always had strong ties with the German people. This aspect is one of the most interesting and is what made me go on a trip to the iconic city of the European white-walled mountains in the Caribbean.
To get to Tovar Colony, I took the road that connects Caracas and the Junquito, as I was in the capital city. The journey along the road was impressive. From Caracas to Tovar Colony, it took us two and a half hours to get there. The extraordinary thing about the drive is that you see the incredible mountain formations of the Venezuelan coastal range. The view from the car is breathtaking.
Tovar Colony was founded in 1843, when the Venezuelan government of the time ceded this territory for the settlement of German immigrants belonging to the Grand Duchy of Baden. When I arrived at Tovar Colony, I could see how impressive the expansion of a settlement and urbanism with its own identity was. It was one of the places I did not know in Venezuela, so I had to enjoy it to the fullest.

Before starting our tour, we decided to have lunch at Das Bächer Coffee Restaurant. Why did my brother, uncle and I choose to eat first? The reason: We drove all the way from Caracas to Junquito without eating anything. We were hungry and out of energy. If you are going to tour Tovar Colony, you should have had lunch. My recommendation is that it should be something light.
This restaurant is extremely eye-catching, and has the identity of Tovar Colony. The service is pleasant, and the food is generally good. We ordered a German grill. The value was about 50 USDT or HBD which was paid in legal tender. For lunch, I recommend looking in the center or the old town. Don't go for what you see at first sight.

One thing I noticed that exists preponderantly on the streets is motorbikes and large vans. You have to be very careful when walking on the streets.

In the center, historic is the Church of San Martín de Tours, which began construction in 1843 and is officially part of Venezuela's historical heritage. It is a warm place that reflects the Catholic history of this small town.

Near the church, there is a street market. In this market, you can buy sweets or souvenirs that remind you of the Tovar Colony. The whole infrastructure is in the mountains, so there is always a degree of inclination. It is incredible how they built houses and buildings in these natural physical conditions.

In the market, you will also find tour companies where you can pay for a tour. The best option to enjoy everything that exists in Tovar Colony is to pay for this service. I was able to go in our car, but it is not recommended, as it would strain the engine to climb each of the mountains. Unless you have a pickup truck or Jeep that can handle the steep incline of the mountains.
We started the tour, which was priced at 50 USDT or HBD at the legal tender exchange rate. The first place we visited was Coffee Tovar CS, an artisan shop that painstakingly demonstrated the elaboration of roasted coffee based on local cultivation practices or methodologies. In this quirky tourist shop, you can taste the coffee and buy a pack if you wish. They also have many sweets made from coffee.

The second place I visited on the tour was the Tree House. The entrance of this place is really charming; it is impressive, and the view is breathtaking.

As you walk, i.e., enter, you see a view of the mountains that suddenly brings you closer to a German-style house supported by a tree with a sturdy trunk in the middle of the void. The architecture of this house is incredible. I recommend the experience of entering the house and visualizing the interior. If you have a fear of heights, you can contain it like me.

The third place I visited on the tour was Coloniera, craft beer. Who doesn't love beer? I declare myself a beer lover, hahahaha. This place was perfect for me. When you enter, you are greeted very cordially. The people are dressed in local costumes, and they explain the process of how they brew the beer and the types they have. Of course, I bought a good beer.

I must point out that something I love about Coloniera, a craft brewery, is the impressive viewpoint it has. It also has its own identity that envelops tourists. Charming. Being there, I realized how beautiful Venezuela is.
The fourth place in Tovar Colony that I visited on the tour was where the bad women were; that's what the guide told us. I understood the reason when we arrived at Bavarian Wine. Here, I took the opportunity to take a picture of the Kawasaki we were traveling in. Note: the shotgun is a toy shotgun.

A small German house with the identity of the migrants who settled in this mountainous formation. The place is beautiful, and the service is incredible. I laughed a lot.
There is a wine tasting here and you can dress up in German clothes. I didn't do it because we still had two more places to visit.
The fifth place was the one I wanted to go to most, but the sunset had already set, so everything was very dark. This place was Chocolatico CT, a place where there is a unique and charming viewpoint. Besides, they sell my favourite sweet: chocolate.

Finally, the last place I visited was the Enchanted Forest. As it was too late, I could not ride the swing or the zip line. Nor could I go through the forest because it was late, and I had to go back to Barquisimeto. I left it for next time, but it is definitely great. The zip line and the swing are worth 10 USDT or HBD each at the local currency exchange rate, it is an experience I hope to live when I come back again.

Tovar Colony is a magical, charming place with a unique identity. It is so unique that it is a beautiful pearl in the middle of the mountains of Aragua State. It is a hidden place that can only be found in Venezuela.

La Pequeña Alemania del Caribe 📍 Colonia Tovar: Aragua
Una de las cosas que siempre me ha gustado es la oportunidad de viajar. El 21 de abril de éste año me fui de viaje. La misión en ésta oportunidad era conocer uno de los lugares más icónicos de Venezuela: La Colonia Tovar, un pequeño pueblo de la descendencia de alemanes y venezolanos ubicado en el municipio Tovar, Estado Aragua.
Pocas personas saben que Venezuela entre 1528 y 1546 estuvo administrada por una familia de banqueros del Imperio Germánico, hoy Alemania. Desde ése momento, los lazos de la antigua provincia de Venezuela, posterior Capitanía General y la forma republicana en sus diferentes formas ha tenido siempre lazos sólidos con el gentilicio Alemán. Éste aspecto es uno de los más interesantes y los que provocaron que fuera de viaje a la icónica ciudad de las montañas de paredes blancas europeas en el caribe
Para llegar a la Colonia Tovar tomé la carretera que conecta Caracas y el Junquito, ya que yo me encontraba en la ciudad capital. El recorrido por la vía era impresionante. De Caracas a la Colonia Tovar nos tomó dos horas y media para llegar. Lo extraordinario del recorrido es que miras la increíble formación de montañas de la cordillera de la costa venezolana. La vista desde el auto es impactante.
La Colonia Tovar se fundó en el año 1843, cuando el gobierno venezolano de entonces cedió este territorio para el asentamiento de inmigrantes alemanes que pertenecían al Gran Ducado de Baden. Cuando llegué a la Colonia Tovar pude notar lo impresionante de la expansión de un asentamiento y un urbanismo con identidad propia. Era uno de los lugares que no conocía de Venezuela, por ello debía disfrutarlo al máximo.

Antes de iniciar nuestro recorrido decidimos almorzar en Das Bächer Café Restaurant. ¿Por qué elegí junto a mi hermano y mi tío comer primero? La razón: Conducimos toda la carretera desde Caracas y el Junquito sin comer nada. Teníamos hambre y estábamos sin energía. Si vas a recorrer la Colonia Tovar debes haber almorzado. Mi recomendación es que sea algo ligero. Nosotros comimos una parrilla alemana.
Éste restaurante es extremadamente llamativo, y posee la identidad de la Colonia Tovar. La atención es agradable, y la comida buena en términos generales. Nosotros pedimos una parrilla alemana. El valor fue de unos 50 USDT o HBD que se pagaron en moneda de curso legal. Recomiendo para almorzar, indagar en el centro o casco histórico. No ir por lo que se ve siempre a primera vista.

Algo que noté que existe preponderantemente en las calles son las motocicletas y grandes camionetas. Hay que tener mucho cuidado al caminar en las calles.

En el centro de todo el casco histórico, se encuentra la Iglesia de San Martín de Tours. Ésta iglesia comenzó su construcción en 1843 y es parte del Patrimonio histórico de Venezuela, oficialmente. Es un lugar cálido y que refleja la historia católica de éste pequeño pueblo.

Cerca de la Iglesia hay un mercado ambulante. En éste mercado se pueden comprar dulces o también algún souvenir que te haga recordar la colonia Tovar. Toda la infraestructura ésta en montañas, por eso hay un grado siempre de inclinación. Es increíble cómo construyeron casas y edificios en estas condiciones físico-naturales.

En el mercado también encontrarás empresas de turismo por las que se puede pagar un tour. La mejor opción para poder disfrutar de todo lo que existe en la Colonia Tovar es pagar éste servicio. Yo pude ir en nuestro carro, pero no es recomendable, ya que se forzaría el motor al subir cada una de las montañas. Al menos que tengas una camioneta o Jeep que soporten los altos grados de inclinación de las montañas.
Iniciamos el tour que tuvo un precio de 50 USDT o HBD al cambio de la moneda de curso legal. El primer lugar que visitamos fue Café Tovar CS, una tienda muy autóctona que mostraba de manera minuciosa la elaboración de café tostado basado en prácticas o metodologías de cultivo autóctonas. En éste peculiar negocio turístico, se degusta el café y puedes adquirir un empaque si lo deseas. También tienen muchos dulces hechos a base de café.

El segundo lugar que visité del tour fue la Casita del Árbol. La entrada de éste sitio es realmente encantador, es impresionante y la vista es impactante.

A medida que vas caminando, es decir, entrando, ves una vista de las montañas que te acerca repentinamente a una casa estilo alemán sostenida en un árbol con un tronco robusto en medio del vacío. La arquitectura de ésta casa es increíble. Recomiendo vivir la experiencia de entrar a la casa y visualizar su interior. Si tienes miedo a las alturas, puedes contenerlo como yo.

El tercer lugar que visité en el recorrido fue Coloniera, cerveza artesanal. ¿A quién no le encanta la cerveza? Me declaro amante de la cerveza, jajajaja. Este lugar fue perfecto para mí. Al entrar te saludan muy cordialmente. La gente va vestida con trajes locales y explica el proceso de elaboración de la cerveza y los tipos que tienen. Por supuesto, compré una buena cerveza.

Debo destacar que algo que encanta de Coloniera, cervecería artesanal, es el mirador impresionante que posee. Además de una identidad propia que envuelve a los turistas. Encantador. Al estar ahí, me di cuenta lo hermosa que es Venezuela.
El cuarto sitio dentro de la Colonia Tovar que visité por el tour era donde estaban las mujeres malas, eso fue lo que nos dijo el guía. La razón la comprendí cuando llegamos a Vino Bávaro. Acá aproveché para tomarle una fotografía a la Kawasaki donde nos trasladábamos. Nota: la escopeta es de juguete.

Una pequeña casa alemana con esa identidad de migrantes que se asentaron en esta formación montañosa. El lugar es precioso, la atención increíble. Yo me reí mucho.
Aquí hay una degustación de vinos y puedes vestirte con ropa alemana. Yo no lo hice porque aún nos quedaban dos lugares por visitar.
El quinto lugar era el que más deseaba ir; pero ya la puesta de sol se había impuesto. Por ende, todo estaba muy oscuro. Éste sitio era Chocolatico CT, un lugar donde hay un mirador único y encantador. Además, venden mi dulce favorito: El chocolate.

Es un sitio turístico perfecto para tomar una bebida caliente de chocolate, conversar y deleitarte con la impresionante vista de la naturaleza.

Finalmente, el último lugar que visité fue el Bosque Encantado. Al ser muy tarde no me pude montar en el columpio y la tirolesa. Tampoco recorrer el bosque debido a que era tarde y debía regresar a Barquisimeto. Lo dejé para una próxima ocasión, pero sin lugar a dudas es genial. La tirolesa y el columpio valen 10 USDT o HBD cada uno al cambio de moneda local, es una experiencia que espero vivir cuando vuelva nuevamente.

La Colonia Tovar es un lugar mágico, encantador y con una identidad única. Tan única que es una hermosa perla en medio de las montañas del estado Aragua. Es un lugar escondido que sólo se puede encontrar en Venezuela.

Ay que your mas completo, hay un montón de cosas que me estoy dando cuenta que me perdí en n las visitas para allá. Básicamente yo iba a comer xD lo de la cerveza se ve ge I al y ese puente colgante siempre quise cruzarlo. Que chevere tu paseo! Ojalá puedas hacer el recorrido al revés la próxima vez para aprovechar lo que te perdiste. Por cierto, me faltó una foto de la parrillaaaaaaaaa!
No puede ser que no visitaste todo esto. Debes hacerlo cuando pises nuevamente suelo venezolano. Yo fui a comer y a conocer todo lo que hay allí. Una belleza, es magia pura. A mi me encantó.
