An unexpected surprise in a nearby village

in Worldmappin2 years ago

As I mentioned recently, I was on a hiking trip on Saturday. And one of the stops was in the village of Prosenice.

Prosenice is a small village near Přerov. The population is about 800. So I was surprised that there was a museum there. What kind of museum could it be in such a small village?

The first photo is not the museum, but the municipal office. But the museum is right nearby.

The museum is unexpectedly large and is located in the buildings of the Bartos farm. In one part there are agricultural tools and farm equipment in general.

A large part of the museum was dedicated to Easter themes and customs. Egg decorating, folk customs, Easter food.

The museum also includes an extensive exhibition of folk naive art by local artists - paintings, drawings and woodcuts.

Součástí muzea je i rozsáhlá expozice lidového naivního umění od místních umělců - malby, kresby i dřevořezby.

The museum has no staff. The guides and staff are volunteers - citizens of the community and admission is voluntary. Considering the scale and number of exhibits, it's almost unbelievable. I've lived within 20 km all my life, but I had no idea there was anything like this in Prosenice.

Good walk. Many underestimate museums, but they are a kind of reminder of culture and the past.

Wow!A community-run museum. We don't get a lot of that now. I appreciate their kind hearts to volunteer and preserve the past.
