People say that if you leave the Netherlands without visiting tulip fields, you have seen almost nothing in the Netherlands. People from all over the world come to Holland to see the vast and beautiful thousands of tulips fields. Well, my title might be catchy and might give you the wrong information but after reading my post, you will understand the meaning of the given title. Anyway, I have been staying in the Netherlands for almost a year and I haven't visited any tulips fields until May 2023. Well, because of so many personal reasons and also because of a lack of opportunities, I was not able to see the beautiful Tulip fields.
In my opinion, tulips are very sensitive flowers and they maintain a very specific timeline to stay alive. Google will tell you that from the end of March until mid-may, you can see the tulips in Holland and the best time to see blooming tulips are in mid-April. Well, here tulip fields and farms excursions start in March, and people started buying/booking tickets in January/ February. I knew all the information but unfortunately, I did nothing due to my sickness. So, my planning and desire remained only a wish.
Anyway, a long beck story short, I suddenly decided to visit a Tulip farm far away from my city. I was too late obviously because I visited the farm in May. Or I can say I was too early for the next Tulip season.
I also came to know about this farm very late, I knew about the famous Keukenhof but I was not very interested in that garden because it stays crowded during tulip season. Considering my health, I thought it would be a good idea to visit a farm and walk surrounding to see the Tulip fields.
Reaching the location was not so easy from the city where I live. First I had to take the train to Schiphol Airport and from Schiphol Airport I took the train to Leiden Central. Well, my next destination was Sassenheim which is located near Leiden Central. After 1 hour and 30 minutes of travel, finally we reached Sassenheim station. It's a very small station and seemed almost empty.
To reach the De Tulperij farm, I had to take a taxi to Lisse from Sassenheim station. I could have taken the bus as well but the taxi was more convenient though it was expensive. The taxi took 20 euros from Sassenheim to De Tulperij.
The taxi driver was nice, he started talking about the location when I asked him and explained what I can see there and how I can spend time there. He also mentioned Keukenhof but I was not interested.
The farm is located in Lisse.
After reaching the farm, I decided to walk around a bit before entering the farm. I started looking around with a lot of expectation and I saw these fields with almost no tulips. The day before my trip, heavy rainfall happened and only a few tulips survived from heavy rainfall. Like I said my expectation was high because I have seen thousands of amazing photos of tulip fields. I was kinda disappointed in myself for not doing proper planning for the trip and also kinda dissatisfied seeing the empty field. But it is what it is, I made around 2 hours journey just to see the empty fields.
With a broken heart, I thought to visit the farm "De Tulperij" in the hope of seeing some tulips. The entrance of the farm was nice, fresh yellow daffodils welcomed us to visit the farm. Also, it was nice to read the board as well. |

After entering the farm, I was expecting a garden or something but I discovered a beautiful shop that was decorated inspired by tulips and Dutch culture. At first, I started looking around, started exploring every corner of the shop, and then went to see the tulips that were for sale.
It was mesmerizing to experience the colors and variations of tulips. I have seen tulips before but I have never seen so many variations together in one place. The heavenly smell and bold colors instantly made my mood fresh and I had to let my disappointment go to enjoy the small moment.
This variety of tulips reminded me of Carnation flowers, they look so similar. They were so pretty that I thought to buy one flower pot for my home. But then I recalled that I don't have any place to keep this flower pot or nurture it.
My phone did a really good job taking these photos.
This was not an ordinary farm shop, this shop was holding the Dutch history, Tulip Business, and family business history of the farm. I was not so sure where to pay for my visit because I saw at the entrance that I have to pay if I want to go to the garden. But the lady from the shop told me that I can be there for free and can spend time inside and outside. I saw only one tourist like me who came to visit the field and was disappointed like me. Later they bought some souvenirs, tulip bulbs, and seeds and then left.
Because I got the chance to stay there for free, so I was walking around and started taking photos of the shop. As I have said it was not an ordinary shop so I will show you why this farm's shop was not ordinary. I didn't have any guide so I explored everything by myself.
This shelf represents the pottery of the Dutch. Dutch pottery known as Delft Pottery or Delftware can be found in Delft city. The original work of this pottery is identical and follow very specific white and blue color. These interior decors are just exceptional but not traditional.
On this wall, you will see a glimpse of Delftwares but the design is inspired by tulips and Hyacinth flowers. This unique design is only available on this farm, nowhere else.
In this photo, you can see the royal Delft products, very expensive and beautiful decorations. The stacking vase is a unique piece to keep the flowers in an innovative way and the cost was around 100 euros.
I wanted to purchase at least one decors but I thought I will buy something when I will visit Delft city, Netherlands.
Each corner of the shop will give you a unique experience as well as knowledge of the history of tulips. Interior ideas, Dutch pottery, Dutch tradition and culture and, last but not least, you will see the tools that farmers/ gardeners had used before for tulip cultivation. The touch and history of the tulips were everywhere, you just need to spend time there. I was kinda lucky because no one was there and I had a lot of time to see each and every piece closely.
Many unique and creative decors were available there that you won't find anywhere else.
This wall is very personal and dedicated to the family who owns this business. This is a family business that dedicated itself to the tulip business. This business remained the same from generation to generation and in the future it will remain the same.
A world map to pin the country from where you came. I put pins both on Ukraine and Bangladesh.
Very few people from Greenland and Russia visited this place.
After spending an hour inside the big shop, I went outside to see the farm. Unfortunately, most of the tulips were dead but still, it was nice to sit in the garden. I bought an ice cream from the shop and enjoyed it while sitting in the garden.
More tulip photos from the Farm (outside)
The pink shaded tulips are called "Sugar Baby", kinda funny from a sarcastic perspective. I was hoping to see Sugar Mommy or Daddy but didn't find them. |

Unlimited photos I have taken but sharing those that I have found meaningful. It was a disappointing day not to experience the beauty of thousands of tulips but at least the day was well spent despite of less tulips.
After 4 hours of excursion, I had returned home with a smile...

Your photos are as colorful as the tulips themselves. Thank you for sharing the beauty of Dutch tulip fields.
I am glad you liked the photos and really appreciate that you took the time to read my post. Thank you...
I think that just because of that phrase the trip was worth it. You discovered a beautiful place, learned its history and found some flowers. I would have liked to sit down with you and have that ice cream together. ♥️🤗

Enjoying ice cream while sitting in the garden was epic and it definitely felt so nice. The purity of flowers always makes a person happy and no matter what an individual is going through, flowers can make a day. It was not a fairy tale but the trip was exceptional...
You are exceptional!! The trip gave you back part of your reflection. 😘
I guess so, I guess inside me still that strong woman exists...
I went to Keukenhof and it was very busy!!! You had a private tour and all the place to yourself, I think that is much better!!
This was better obviously to see such a farm when nobody was around. Keukenhof is really pretty but during the season, everybody wants to go there. I also wanted to go there first but when I saw a video full of crowd, I changed my mind...
Good choice to go somewhere less crowded 👍
Exactly...
Fantastic location and I am so happy for you! 😍 We need more days like this to spend outside, in daylight and amount fragrances and colors. This is good for a mental health too. This is why I literally force myself to leave the house.
Take care, dear.
Sending you hugs and !luv
That's the best thing to do because you have been going through a lot. Nature makes us calm and we can enjoy solitude and calm moments within nature. Before returning to Kharkiv, I hope I will be able to visit a few locations that I always wanted to see in life.
Stay safe and sending a lot of love...
This is a very good idea! And probably we can meet too 😊😉
We will meet again and hopefully soon...
❤❤❤ Can't wait!
Stay strong honey 🇺🇦🙏
I was reading your post earlier today about Saltivka, totally heartbroken... :( Stay safe dear...
I know that 🫣me too with broken hearts 💔
Your article actually shows that you enjoyed the trip so I'm not surprised
I hope you continue to enjoy more trips like this...
Thank you so much, it was a nice day out...
Wonderful even in May! I ought to book a trip sometime.
Well done on that long journey.. Wow!
I can relate.. 😊
It was overall a good experience even though my expectation was high. In the end, at least I have seen some beautiful tulips...
It's always a bit hit and miss when you go to see certain fields. We have sunflower fields near me and even though I get to see them, it still is dependent on the weather ruining them. I'm lucky that they're only 15 minutes away.
You still came away with some lovely photos. Good to go somewhere different as well. ❤️
Tulips are more sensitive than sunflowers but yea field situations are always unpredictable. I hope I will be able to stay in NL until next year so that I can visit the blooming field again.
I have been going here and there to bring changes in my life because staying in the shelter kinda depressing, unfortunately...
I'm not going to pretend I know what it is like, but it really is good to have a change of scenery. Your trip was still worth it as your photos were lovely.
It's so nice to describe your experience of exploring the farm, even when the tulips are not blooming yet. It was quite nice to imagine the colorful fields and the cute weather vane. The positive energy and excitement emanating from your writing is beautifully reflected.
Tulips bloomed and died because I was late. But still managed to see some varieties but not in the field. People told me that I must visit the tulip field while staying in NL but unfortunately, I couldn't. But in the end, I gathered some positive energy and made a good memory as well.
Thank you...
OMGGG!! I love tulips💖 I hope to visit that breath taking place one day☺️
It looks really pretty during the tulip blooming season, a place that will create a beautiful lifetime memory...
Sorry that you didn't get, what you expect
but these Photographs are really awesome/lovely 😍
And the Unique pieces/things of the shops are also really attractive maybe if you found those Tulips in the field you maybe skip focusing this Shop...
Hope you will have a chance to visit here at right time (don't forget to share with your exprience...)
Note : My English is not so perfect, so ignore if you found some mistakes 😅
This could happen certainly because my full focus would have been on enjoying the flowers. Finding some really antique and exclusive decor was something that I can talk about now.
If I stay in NL until the next season...
Your English is better than mine :)
Thanks Priyan Fareen...
Actually, now that you mention it, if I think of Holland, one of the first things that come to mind are #tulip flowers.
Even though it was out of season, the photos of the fields look nice.
I think that, of the #photos of the flowers, the one I liked the most and I plan to put it as a wallpaper for a while was:
It's nice that the change of scenery, and the #flowers, gave way to a better mood.

Sure, please use it as wallpaper. I am using one as well and they are really pretty. I don't know whether I am gonna be able to stay in NL until next season but this will stay as a good memory inside my mind...

Hello Priyan, I am happy to see your post and all those lovely images of tulips. Glad too that you seem to be adjusted with your life in the Netherlands (?). I can remember your beautiful photos shot in a Ukrainian farm with all those lovely flowers before the war. I hope you are alright now and your doggy. I was absent for many months because my husband passed away last year. Looking forward to hearing from you. Hugs!
I am so sorry, my condolence... I hope you are doing okay because I know how hard it is to lose someone you love.
I guess I have always been attracted to flower fields and that's why I often search for such locations to explore.
My doggy is doing good, she is 3 years old now. Time flies and I cannot believe how first she has been growing... I hope you are okay my friend...
Thank you ...yep, I am getting things solved one at a time... Have a nice weekend and hope to see you both here. Take care Priyan.
What a post. What a place. What an ending...
You were right about those varieties that looked like carnations. I saw the the picture and thought that before I read the text!
I adore tulips but to be honest, prefer the simple, solid colours.
You have a great weekend and I look forward to your next great adventure :-)
From far away, at first, I thought why they are growing carnations !!! But when I went closer, I was surprised to see the shape and shades because I have never seen them before. They are also not available in the local flower market always. I think some shops in Amsterdam sell these tulips but mostly bulbs. I wish I could buy that flower pot for myself but I don't have any place to grow tulips right now...
You should come to NL once...
Happy Saturday and have a good weekend...
One day. I have so many places still on my bucket list:-)
I feel so ashamed that I had no idea the Netherlands is so famous for its fields of tulips, lol. But thanks to your post, I added some extra knowledge today to my backpack! Also, such a lovely way to discover how many species of tulips are out there since we get to see just the most common ones on this part of the globe, and mostly just red!
The variations and vibrant colors of tulips really make this flower unique and as far as I know the Netherlands produces the largest amount of Tulips in the whole world with a lot of variations. I was surprised to see different shades, and sizes of tulips because in Ukraine I mostly saw red and yellow ones. Indeed the fields are worthy to see...
Exactly! Mostly red and yellow in Romania too. That's why I was really happy to explore some new colours and shapes through your post. So thank you for that :)
I hope one day you will be able to see these in person; all you have to do is to plan the right time to visit these fields. :D
Indeed. Will definitely keep in mind! Thank you ❤️
It has been a very pleasant sight, they are very beautiful photos.
It is very pleasant to enjoy the journey that you show us in your publication.
Thank you so much.
Nature always brings relaxation and mindfulness, I guess I was happy and grateful because I was able to visit such a pretty location. This farm also grows Dahlia which will be blooming in august. I hope I will be able to see that too...
Thank you for sharing your travels here. I am grateful to have a glimpse of beautiful places that I wish to visit someday. Will surely look for the tulips when I get there. !PGM
Thank you so much for reading my journey. I am glad that my post gave you some ideas for tulips. Surely a beautiful place to visit during the Tulip season...

Hey honey! How are you doing? I try contacting with you with telegram
Oh I hope you get to see them in all its glory some other time. Blooming is so ephemeral. I planned to film by the daffodils early Spring and they withered before I could. Weather is crazy but even the half battered fields look pretty in the pics
