Historie a vznik:
Today we will return to Strážnice and see the Church of the Assumption.
Strážnice Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is not only the spiritual centre of the town, but also an important monument of Baroque architecture. Its rich history and artistic decoration make it a place worth visiting.
History and origins:
The church was built in the middle of the 18th century on the site of the former Brethren school and choir. When the Unity of Brethren was expelled during the violent recatholization after the Battle of White Mountain. Its foundation is connected with the arrival of Italian Piarists who came to Strážnice at the invitation of a local nobleman. The Piarists contributed to the development of the town and it was they who initiated the construction of the church and later a college with a school and a gymnasium.
Architektura a umělecká výzdoba:
Takže ani nebylo možné prostrčit fotoaparát dovnitř a pořídit aspon omezené fotografie boční výzdoby.
Architecture and artistic decoration:
The church is an example of Baroque architecture. Its façade is richly decorated with statues and reliefs. The interior of the church is also very richly decorated. The ceilings are covered with frescoes and the walls are decorated with paintings and sculptures. The entire decoration is the unified work of the painter Josef T. Rotter and the sculptor Ignác Morávka.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to visit the church, so I have photos of the interior only through the grille of the door, which was also fitted with glass. So it was not even possible to stick my camera inside and take at least limited photos of the side decoration.
Love image of Virgin Mary of Strážnice:
The love painting of Our Lady of Strážnice deserves special attention. This painting is a rare work by an unknown 17th century Milanese artist and has been an object of veneration for the faithful for centuries. The painting depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus and is considered miraculous.
On the World Day of the Sick (11 February), the sick make pilgrimages to this image..
Above the entrance to the church is a mosaic from the 19th century, modelled on the above-mentioned painting.
Přidávám další detaily vnější sochařské výzdoby kostela
I add more details of the external sculptural decoration of the church
The stone cross in front of the church is also worth mentioning. In the middle of the front side is a statue of the Virgin Mary, on the sides stand St. Cyril and St. Methodius and on the top is Christ on the cross. It was built in the 19th century.

While I'm not religious, church and cathedrals are always pretty and exciting to see, astonishing how skilled the people were so long ago.
