Hello dear friends,

It is always a pleasure to come back and write here in this community, sharing with you other places I’ve been fortunate to discover in my life. This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but due to work commitments, I wasn’t able to finish it. So today, I want to introduce you to Forno, a fraction of the municipality of Massa, located about 200 meters above sea level. The uniqueness of this place lies in the fact that it is situated in the valley of the Frigido River, right at the foot of the Apuan Alps. This town developed thanks to the numerous mines in the area, leading to its growth based on work opportunities.

As you can see from the first photos I shared, the river that flows through the town is truly impressive and effectively splits the village in half.

In reality, the history of this town dates back to Roman times and later flourished because the Via Francigena, a pilgrimage route, passes through here, which I have mentioned in other posts I've shared in the community.

Naturally, I took my usual walk and immediately noticed that, unfortunately, most of the houses are in very poor condition. I started to climb the various staircases, as there are many streets that wind through this village. If you want to stay physically fit, these are the right places for you.

I was also impressed because, in certain spots, it’s almost as if the houses merge with the mountain, creating a seamless body. However, in my opinion, this can sometimes be a bit negative, as there were significant signs of moisture infiltration in some areas due to the recent rains.

In a village like this, there must also be a fountain—something fundamental—because these small villages usually arose near water sources, which are essential for life. I must say that when I walk in these places, there are always beautiful views; unfortunately, I am not a professional photographer; otherwise, one could spend an entire day here taking pictures.
