Hello, dear friends!
Today, fortunately, even though I am super busy with work, I found a little time to write this post to share with you another place that I want you to discover, which I believe deserves to be visited in person.
I’m talking about Torano, a district of the municipality of Carrara, also in the province of Massa Carrara, so still in Tuscany. We are located at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level, and from the information I found, this small district has about 600 inhabitants.
This beautiful village has origins that date back even before the Roman era. It is believed that its name is linked to the fact that bulls were once used for transporting marble—very strong animals that could carry and move these enormous blocks of marble. I must say that the road to reach this village is very scenic, as it is in direct contact with the quarries of Carrara's white marble.
I walked and got lost in the streets of this village, which is nestled and completely built on the slopes of the mountain, right next to the quarries. It definitely makes me think that it must have once been a very flourishing village, as I wonder how many people lived here and worked in the nearby quarries.
At one point, I found myself in front of a house that was beautifully decorated, and the village itself was adorned with lights. I can imagine that some local festival is taking place around this time; usually, in Tuscany, it’s always like that, perhaps there’s a celebration dedicated to some saint. In any case, I must say that the event was very lovely, and it must have been very scenic in the evening.
In the end, I almost got lost in the streets of this small village, but as you can see from the photos I shared, they are really narrow and unfortunately, they were all uphill for my legs.
I hope the photos I shared were interesting. I really hope you can visit this place because I think it is very fascinating and beautiful. I’ll see you in my next post. See you soon!
