This summer I went to visit my Uncle in Kansas City Missouri. You might think, what is she saying isn't it Kansas City, Kansas. Yes, there is a smaller city on the Kansas side also called Kansas City. The city that we explored is in Missouri and if you are a sports fan, it is home to the Chiefs and Royals.
Boating
The first day we went boating in Lees Summit which is where my Uncle lives, which is right outside of Kansas City.
It was a gorgeous night and perfect for a pontoon ride on the lake.
Union Station
Our first stop in Kansas City was the beautiful train station called (like in many other cities) Union Station

Art Museum
It was a very hot day so our plan was to go to the Nelson Art Museum. Unfortunately it is closed on Thursdays. Boo. Instead we went to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. There was a good exhibit by Virginia Jaramillo and a couple Chihuly pieces, that made me happy.

Famous BBQ
For dinner we had famous Kansas City BBQ at Jack Stack. It was really good and maybe even better the next day for lunch. Yummy!
Family History
The best part of the trip was being with my uncle and his wife. As some of you will remember, my mom died a few years ago and he is a very tangible connection to her and her family. We looked at the pictures he has of his ancestors. What a treat!

Hi Jane, Thank you. Yes, I am making it a point to go to museums more now. I realized how much I enjoy them and even if others don't it doesn't mean that I need to hold back. I can and will enjoy them!
What a wonderful station! I like such buildings, they are very interesting both outside and, most importantly, inside. Especially with the exhibition of trains :)
Lovely old pictures of your family. I think it's nice to look at them, communicate with relatives and feel family ties through the years and centuries.
Yes, it is so great to learn more about the people in our family that came before us and are a part of us and who we are.

The boating on the lake sounds like a lot of fun, and I love that you got to see the train exhibit at Union Station. I've never been to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, but I've heard good things about it. And of course, no trip to Kansas City would be complete without some famous BBQ!
I'm especially touched that you got to spend time looking at pictures of your ancestors with your uncle. It sounds like a really special way to connect with your mom's family history.

I myself am very fond of going on this kind of adventure especially as we can see now in the picture that this place is very beautiful and one gets to see many natural sights there. It looks more beautiful by going to such places, one gets a lot of peace, especially when one is with friends, one enjoys a lot.
