Continuing with the places I visited on my recent trip to Choroní, Aragua state (Venezuela), I bring you my experience at a beach that in recent months has become somewhat viral on social networks, but of which I had not heard before: Tinikijima. I've been several times on this coast and before nobody talked about it, which makes me think that it was like a secret beach, or well maybe not so much, but a beach that only locals went to. Surely at some point they took there someone who had a travel agency or something like that and word spread about its existence, the truth is that it is currently highly promoted.
Continuando con los lugares que visité en mi reciente viaje a Choroní, estado Aragua (Venezuela), les traigo mi experiencia en una playa que en los últimos meses se ha hecho algo viral por redes sociales, pero de la cual no había escuchado antes: Tinikijima. He estado varias veces en esta costa y antes nadie hablaba de ella, lo que me hace pensar que era como una playa secreta, o bueno quizás no tanto, sino una playa a la que sólo iban los pobladores de aquí. Seguramente en algún momento ellos llevaron a alguien que tenía una agencia de viajes o algo así y se corrió la voz sobre su existencia, lo cierto es que actualmente es muy promocionada.
In the pictures it looks beautiful, so on our second day in Choroní, my friend Carol and I decided to visit it very early in the morning. I had read that it was a 15 minute walk, but I didn't know where the trail started, so after drinking some natural juices in the village, we asked and were told that the trail was not far, it is at the end of the boardwalk across the river.
En las fotos se ve preciosa, así que en nuestro segundo día en Choroní, mi amiga Carol y yo decidimos ir a conocerla bien temprano en la mañana. Había leído que se llegaba por un sendero de unos 15 minutos, pero no sabía dónde comenzaba ese sendero, así que después de tomarnos unos jugos naturales en el pueblo, preguntamos y nos dijeron que el camino no estaba lejos, se encuentra al final del malecón cruzando el río.
We went down some stairs there and we were already crossing the river, it is not deep, the water reached below our knees.
Bajamos unas escaleras que hay allí y ya estábamos cruzando el río, no es profundo, el agua nos llegaba por debajo de las rodillas.
When you get to the other side there is a sign that says "Tipire" (another beach), and a small forest, and a few steps ahead there is a sign where Tinikijima appears. According to what was explained to us on the boardwalk, it was not difficult to get there, we simply had to follow the road on the left side, and that's what we did.
Al llegar al otro lado hay un letrero que dice “Tipire” (otra playa), y un bosquecito, y al avanzar unos pasos está una señalización donde aparece Tinikijima. Según nos explicaron en el malecón, no era difícil llegar, simplemente debíamos seguir el camino por el lado izquierdo, y eso hicimos.
In the first part of the route you see the sea on one side, then comes a detour and you gradually enter the mountain.
En la primera parte de la ruta ves el mar a un lado, luego viene un desvío y te adentras poco a poco en la montaña.
In addition to its curious name of which I didn't get any information, another thing that caught my attention about this beach is that you had to hike to get to it, something I love even though the distance is short and the terrain easy. There are a few climbs here but slight, nothing steep.
Además de su curioso nombre del cual no conseguí ninguna información, otra de las cosas que llamó mi atención en cuanto a esta playa es que había que hacer senderismo para llegar a ella, algo que me encanta aunque la distancia sea corta y el terreno fácil. Hay algunos ascensos aquí pero ligeros, nada abrupto.
We had been walking for about ten minutes when we came across a kind of tunnel, formed between a wall and a fence full of vegetation.
Teníamos unos diez minutos caminando cuando nos encontramos con una especie de túnel, formado entre un muro y una cerca llena de vegetación.
In one part the fence was broken and I was able to see what was inside, a beautiful house with large gardens.
En una parte la cerca estaba rota y pude curiosear lo que había adentro, una hermosa casa con amplios jardines.
At the end of this wall there seems to be no more road, but you reach its corner and there is a narrow path that continues uphill.
Al final de este muro pareciera que no hay más camino, pero llegas a su esquina y hay un sendero angosto que sigue por una subida.
After this part, which looks quite mysterious, we are practically at the edge of the beach.
Después de esta parte, que luce bastante misteriosa, ya estamos prácticamente al borde de la playa.
You see a strip of sea in front of you, to the left a rock wall and to the right a small rise that is a viewpoint.
Ves una franja de mar frente a ti, a la izquierda una pared de piedras y a la derecha una pequeña subida que es un mirador.
When I peeked around, I understood why Tinikijima Beach has become so popular, its scenery is breathtaking.
Cuando me asomé a ver por ahí, entendí por qué Playa Tinikijima se ha hecho tan popular, su paisaje es impresionante.
To go down to it they have made some stairs, you have to be careful because they are somewhat steep.
Para bajar hasta ella han hecho unas escaleras, hay que ir con cuidado porque son algo empinadas.
We arrived before nine in the morning, and apart from the guy who rents the awnings, there were only about three people there.
Nosotras llegamos antes de las nueve de la mañana, y aparte del muchacho que alquila los toldos, sólo estaban unas tres personas.
As there was shade thanks to the high rocky wall that surrounds it, we left our stuff over there, stuck to the stone.
Como había sombra gracias a la alta pared rocosa que la rodea, dejamos nuestras cosas por ahí, pegadas a la piedra.
Tinikijima Beach is small, it must be less than 100 meters long, and has many stones of different sizes scattered around.
Playa Tinikijima es pequeña, debe tener menos de 100 metros de extensión, y tiene muchas piedras de diferentes tamaños dispersas por ahí.
The day was spectacular and as there were almost no people, I took the opportunity to photograph it without interference, thank goodness because a couple of hours later the beach was full.
El día estaba espectacular y como no había casi gente, aproveché para fotografiarla sin interferencias, menos mal porque un par de horas después la playa se llenó.
We got in the water and the temperature was warm, just like at Playa Grande the day before. As for the waves, they were a bit strong, but we had a lot of fun trying to evade them inside or waiting for them to break on the shore.
Nos metimos en el agua y la temperatura era tibia, al igual que en Playa Grande el día anterior. En cuanto a las olas, estaban un poco fuertes, pero nos divertimos mucho tratando de esquivarlas dentro o esperando a que rompieran en la orilla.
A while later the intensity of the waves dropped and I went a little deeper, not only to swim but also to take some shots from there with my waterproof camera (Fujifilm FinePix XP90), what do you think?

We stayed on the beach until just before noon, and I left very happy to have discovered Tinikijima even though it is no longer so secret 😊.
