Hello travel lovers

I hope you are well and nothing can stop you from exploring the world.

Watching the weather forecast for the coming weekend we saw that the weather will be sunny this weekend, even if autumn is in full swing it seems that we are lucky to have nice weather, so we decided to visit one of the most beautiful crystal cave, namely Farcu Mine also known as Farcu Crystal Cave.

Where is the mine located?

First of all, the mine with crystals is part of a protected area in the Craiului Forest Mountains, being the only mine in Romania where these crystals can be admired up close, lately this place has been enhanced and has entered under a conservation program.

The mine is located in Rosia village, 101, Bihor county.

How do we get to the mine?

If you are from the west of Romania (as we are) you should orient yourself after Beius and follow the communes of Petreasa, Remetea, Cabesti and Rosia.

Once here you'll find a rather small parking lot, but don't worry you can safely leave your car at the side of the road.

I have to tell you that the route I mentioned above is also a very beautiful one in these autumn days, nature has put on its autumn clothes and the show it offers for free is superlative.

If you are curious to find out some more exact data about this mine I leave you the following link, more info.

Access and schedule of the crystal cave

The Farcu Crystal Cave is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, the schedule may change depending on the time of the year and legal holidays.

The price of an entrance ticket is 25lei/5euro/adult and for children the price of an entrance ticket is 15lei/3euro/child, the ticket office is in an amazing location made of wood, also here inside if you are passionate you can buy souvenirs (magnets, postcards, handmade objects) very beautiful, you can take pictures and videos as much as you want, there is no fee for that.

Access to the mine is only in organized groups, not individually, the group we were part of consisted of 10 people.

The temperature inside the mine is constant throughout the year reaching 10 degrees.

Ready, we paid the ticket and quietly go to the entrance gate, the entrance is through a strange place, that is if you were not with a guide you would not realize that there is an entrance, in fact there is a door made of iron all rusty, but after passing through the door you start moving towards the center of the earth.

The mine is not a very big one, the duration of the visit here can vary between 30 minutes and an hour, of course it took us longer because we tried to capture its beauty in as many pictures as possible.

After a few steps through the mine we reach a fork, from the guide we learned that on the right side there is a small mining museum, which we visited, we couldn't miss it, and on the left side we go deeper into the mine towards the place that made it famous, the crystals.

We found here a very well preserved place, the galleries are almost perfectly excavated, climbing from one gallery to another is done on some aluminum stairs, during the whole visit here we felt perfectly safe, I forgot to say that at the entrance you can wear a helmet (none of our group wore one).

Let's not forget that we came here to see those unique crystals in the world, in the end after we climbed a few stairs we managed to see the wonder in the depths, crystals in all their splendor, the guide often warns us not to touch these crystals or any formation existing there because it will not grow, as the guide told us these crystals grow 1mm in 25 years, how beautiful nature can amaze us, how pure, how beautiful, how elegant, the only condition is that we respect it.

It was with great satisfaction that we visited the crystals and this amazing mine, but we still haven't left this place because we also found a spot where we took some more beautiful pictures.

On the way back home we stopped at a very old water mill, here we met an old man who told us about the beginnings of this mill but also about local life.

This water mill was used to grind corn and wheat and make flour, it is very interesting to see what the technology was like in those days, the mill being over a hundred years old.

With a squeeze of the heart we leave the old man behind to tell his story to the other tourists who came to visit him and we head home.

After you have finished visiting the cave and you still feel like walking I recommend that you follow a route to the viewpoint Stanu Carnului, the route is of medium difficulty and will take about 20 minutes.

I have never been in a mine!. The setting is very nice, and it looks very interesting to visit. Although the place seems quite cramped and small. My boyfriend is almost 2 meters tall, I don't know if he would have to walk crouched there if we go to visit the mine.🤣

The mine is definitely amazing, and if you ever have the opportunity to visit such places, do it, the height of the mine is over 2m and definitely anyone can visit it.
Thanks for stopping by.
