The pound cake looks great, it would have gone well as a desert for our homemade chili well the beans were canned beans, and the corn was canned corn, and the broth mix was canned, and we didn't process the ground beef ourselves, nor did we grow the carrots and potatoes, some of my spices are getting old, will need to refresh them soon. The onion was also grown by someone else, the one roma tomato I used was grown in mexico, and I think the red bell pepper was from a greenhouse in canada. I'm not sure where the celery came from, but I know we didn't grow it.
I did chop up the veggies, hand measure out the right amount of spices into my and watched and stirred the pot while every simmered together in nice hot avocado oil and real butter. Oh and I almost forgot I did add a couple packets to the onion, celery, pepper mix to get that nice caramelization done,
I do the broth part, my wife does the meat and corn bread and potatoes and carrots and then she watch everything simmer together. So while not a 100% homemade chili it was certainly better than anything out of a can.
Glad to see your post, and glad you are still around kicking it with the kitties.
Your chile sounds complicated with so many ingredients... I don't blame you for taking the easy way towards it's completion...
Always good to hear from you @bashadow. Thanks for stopping by😎
I like your point of view on a lot of things. How are the eyes and cats holding up? Did your eye recover? This getting old is crap, but we deal with it as it comes. I think I need a bigger screen.
Still blind in that one eye. I was told by military doctors at the time of injury that it might happen down the road.
I've got the visiting strays left. My last little girl died a few months back... Oddly, one of the feral that I'd been helping out since about 2012 disappeared about a year and a half ago (Mr. Reddy) I thought he was dead, but he showed up on my back porch approximately a week ago, looking old and tired... He's got a runny nose and sneezing. Stays in my house now on top of the radiator, keeping warm and sleeping most of the day.
I guess we all need a little bit more heat and comfort. At least Mr Reddy knew where to go for a little love and comfort.
Yes, he's always welcome here. I was happy to see him, though wish he'd let me help him even more (clean him up, medicate, maybe take him to a Vet, etc.) but, even after all these years, the little guy won't let me handle him... not even pet him.
Some cats are that way, far to independent of mind. Who knows maybe this time will be different. At least he knows he has a safe harbor.
