Saludos a la distinguida comunidad Hive, espero que todos tengan salud y armonía. En este post escribo sobre mis esfuerzos y experiencia como padre de dos niñas para ofrecer alternativas creativas y de bajo presupuesto dirigidas para el disfrute de los días de vacaciones de las actividades escolares. Tal vez suena como un tema de poco impacto, pero en este caso les presento la manera como hemos generado alternativas de recreación con una fracción de los recursos financieros en comparación a temporadas vacacionales pasadas. Parece fácil pero en realidad se requiere de mucho amor y ganas de compartir momentos de calidad.
Este año 2022 en mi país la cuestión de la economía persiste bajo un ambiente todavía difícil, en especial para quienes prestamos servicios laborales en las instituciones públicas estadales, tal como es mi caso. Llevo años laborando en la misma institución y siempre recibo un pago extra de dinero, en teoría dicho dinero debe ser dispuesto para la recreación de la familia, pero en la práctica cubre pocos gastos y simplemente no alcanza para llevar a cabo ningún plan vacacional tradicional, de esos que vemos en las películas en los cuales una familia puede visitar otros lugares, comer en ferias de comidas, dormir en hoteles, asistir a eventos especiales y ese tipo de actividades comunes.

In this post I write about my efforts and experience as a parent of two girls to offer creative and low-budget alternatives for the enjoyment of vacation days from school activities. Perhaps it sounds like a low impact topic, but in this case I present to you how we have generated recreational alternatives with a fraction of the financial resources compared to past vacation seasons. It seems easy but in reality it requires a lot of love and desire to share quality moments.
This year 2022 in my country the question of the economy persists under a still difficult environment, especially for those of us who provide labor services in state public institutions, as is my case. I have been working in the same institution for years and I always receive an extra payment of money, in theory this money should be used for family recreation, but in practice it covers few expenses and is simply not enough to carry out any traditional vacation plan, one of those we see in the movies in which a family can visit other places, eat at food fairs, sleep in hotels, attend special events and those kinds of common activities.

Se supone que las vacaciones escolares y laborales han sido un logro de los trabajadores y necesarias para la población que estudian en los distintos sistemas escolares, y parece justo que cualquier país pueda ofrecer las condiciones necesarias mínimas para que las familias puedan tener las oportunidades de llevar a cabo planes particulares de acuerdo a sus intereses y posibilidades. Eso es en teoría el deber ser, aun cuando conocemos que muchos son los países en los cuales las vacaciones familiares son apenas un sueño imposible.
Ahora bien, mi familia está compuesta por cuatro miembros; Padre, madre y dos hijas de nueve y once años. Papá y Mamá son trabajadores públicos, dependemos de los salarios que nuestro jefe nos ofrece, en este caso el gobierno venezolano. Sin embargo hemos estado resistiendo y viviendo bajo condiciones adversas ya que no tenemos opción de cambiar nuestra realidad nacional en el corto plazo. Para muchas familias la inflación económica cambio nuestros estilos de vida.
School and work vacations are supposed to have been an achievement of the workers and necessary for the population studying in the different school systems, and it seems fair that any country should be able to offer the minimum necessary conditions so that families can have the opportunities to carry out particular plans according to their interests and possibilities. In theory, this is what should be, even though we know that there are many countries in which family vacations are just an impossible dream.
Now, my family is composed of four members; Father, mother and two daughters of nine and eleven years old. Dad and Mom are public workers, we depend on the salaries that our boss offers us, in this case the Venezuelan government. However, we have been resisting and living under adverse conditions since we have no option to change our national reality in the short term. For many families, economic inflation has changed our lifestyles.
Haciendo ejercicios suaves / Doing light exercises
Este año también nuestras prioridades ya son varias, tenemos asuntos pendientes por resolver en casa; artefactos eléctricos por reparar y hacer servicios de mantenimiento preventivos y correctivos a los sistemas eléctricos y agua potable, así mismo debemos preparar los materiales y uniformes escolares para el venidero período de clases. Cuando uno suma todas estas necesidades pendientes, nos percatamos que el dinero no alcanza. Aquí en este punto toma fuerza la penosa realidad ya que corresponde tomar decisión sobre las prioridades que debemos atender y cuales seguir postergando.
Una vez que se toman las decisiones y revisamos la lista sobre las prioridades, uno sabe que las vacaciones no están incluidas, pero cuando se tienen dos niñas que preguntan por eso, es imposible ignorarlo. Así que la necesidad obliga a que se haga uso de la creatividad y nos convertimos en verdaderos agentes turísticos cuando plantemos alternativas de recreación que implique un bajo presupuesto. Aquí les dejo una lista de lo que hemos estado haciendo para sustituir la playa, la montaña y los parques de atracción mecánica, entre otras alternativas:
This year also our priorities are already several, we have pending issues to resolve at home; electrical appliances to repair and do preventive and corrective maintenance services to electrical systems and drinking water, as well as we must prepare school materials and uniforms for the coming school term. When we add up all these pending needs, we realize that money is not enough. Here at this point the painful reality takes force, since it is necessary to make a decision about the priorities that we must attend to and which ones to continue postponing.
Once the decisions are made and we review the list of priorities, one knows that vacations are not included, but when you have two little girls asking for it, it is impossible to ignore it. So necessity forces us to use our creativity and we become real tourist agents when we come up with recreational alternatives that involve a low budget. Here is a list of what we have been doing to replace the beach, the mountains and mechanical amusement parks, among other alternatives:
Jugando / Playing
Visitamos el lugar público más completo de la ciudad en la cual las personas de manera gratis podemos ir a ejercitarnos, yo acompaño a mis hijas con el pretexto que lo hacemos para caminar y tener mejor salud.
Y por supuesto la visita a la pequeña finca del abuelo, lugar que ellas disfrutan al tener encuentros directos con animales domésticos, ver el río y comer frutas que ellas mismas toman de las plantas.
Todo lo anterior cuesta menos de una fracción de cualquier plan vacacional tradicional, en su mayoría son eventos y actividades nuevas para mis hijas, y como tales despiertan su interés. Ha servido como alternativa válida para momentos especiales, lo más importante para nosotros es disfrutarlo en familia y divertirse juntos de manera creativa y sin prejuicios.
We visited the most complete public place in the city where people can exercise for free, I accompany my daughters with the pretext that we do it to walk and have better health.
And of course the visit to their grandfather's small farm, a place they enjoy having direct encounters with domestic animals, seeing the river and eating fruits that they themselves take from the plants.
All of the above cost less than a fraction of any traditional vacation plan, most of them are new events and activities for my daughters, and as such they spark their interest. It has served as a valid alternative for special moments, the most important thing for us is to enjoy it as a family and have fun together in a creative and non-judgmental way.

When the economic situation is a little difficult, look for activities that can be done for free. Trips to public parks, public museums, etc., so the kids have something to do and have fun on vacation. Fortunately they have a family farm where they can go and enjoy nature.

Seguramente seguiremos encontrando opciones para entretener a nuestros hijos, lo importante es no desmotivarse. De verdad que en nuestro país Venezuela la situación económica nos ha llevado a retirar los poco que ganamos. Recuerdo que cuando a nosotros como trabajadores nos tocaba cobrar bonos vacacionales o aguinaldos, ese dinero alcanzaba para todo, hasta carros se podía comprar o dar iniciales. Ahora al cobrar esos mismos conceptos, solo alcanza y medianamente para comida. Por ello nos hemos visto en la necesidad de recortar gastos, y realizar salidas de disfrute familiar donde nuestro presupuesto no se vea afectado. Todo esto es una realidad de muchos de nosotros. Gracias a Dios que pudieron darle a sus hijas momentos de calidad, porque a veces pensamos que hay que tener mucho dinero para salir, sin embargo ustedes pudieron darles un momento de alegría a sus hijas.
