Hello Fellow fungi lovers,
Hope everyone's having a good #fungifriday.
I certainly am. We finally had rain in these parts, and that means mushrooms growing beyond the range of my sprinkler for the first time in weeks.
I'm not sure what these orange polypores are but they look a lot like (some of) the photos I found of pycnoporus cinnabarinus. (https://www.alamy.com)
There were certainly some interesting shapes.
I also found some wood ears,
which are always pretty interesting shapes.
Another interesting polypore:
Left the dog paws in the shot for scale, while resisting the impulse to make a pawlypore joke. (You're welcome.)
And I found some bright orange chicken of the woods.😋
Laetiporus sulfureus.
For my final polypore, I found some bolete mushrooms
Obviously a blue staining bolete, but...
possibly the bi-color bolete, which is edible. I wasn't sure so I didn't go for it.
I continue to find more winecaps, but I guess you all have seen enough photos of them for now.
Thanks for checking out my post and thanks to @ewKaw for hosting another fun #fungifriday:)
wow, thats a huge harvest! (in terms of encounters, not necessarily the picked up edibles). seems you've discovered a decent amount of chicken of the woods, enaf for a good cook. cool!
my #fungifriday is going well, too -- I am in the middle of shaping my post as well. laters!
:P
Checked out you post. Amazing photos. Mysterious mushroom????
I did make an incredible dish with the chicken of the woods, still have to finish the leftovers.😋
After the first day of rain, I headed towards a spot that I've had my best luck in the past, but before going down that path, decided to cut through the woods to a different trail.
Kind of a crazy story but got stuck and ended up walking from one fallen tree to another. They were actually quite a ways up above the ground, and on the second trunk, look what I found:
Oysters. Not sure which species.
It was so funny, what were the odds I would find them there? Made me think of a comment you made on one of my posts.
well, for this comment: one may count that a joke (and theres percent of a joke fraction there indeed) but on another hand, that may have a solid part pof a truth in it!
ps. a great harvest of oysters - good food supply for 2 days.
blessings!
Awesome finds, you are lucky to find chicken of the woods this early. Someone here in illinois already found some too. Those boletes look like bicolor. Did you harvest any chicken of the woods? I like to cook them then freeze them for use later as buffalo wings. Just thaw them then batter them and dip them in hot sauce.
Actually around here (and really most places) their season's June-October. And yes I did harvest one of the bunches. The other was too old.
Mmmm your recipe sounds yummy but not happening for this batch. I'm afraid they never made it to the freezer:P
