Hace unos días vi un tik tok de una chica que hablaba sobre los cánones de belleza y estereotipos que hay en torno a las mujeres, y hacía referencia a como las chicas que encajaban en el modelo de “belleza” que tiene la sociedad en general, debían luchar en contra de los comentarios que minimizaban sus éxitos profesionales bajo la frase “ella está ahí solo porque es bonita”, y con esto justo recordé esta película de la que les hablare hoy, ya que en términos generales es este el mensaje que busca transmitir esta historia, “las mujeres bonitas son mucho más que esto”.
A few days ago I saw a tik tok of a girl who talked about the canons of beauty and stereotypes that exist around women, and referred to how the girls who fit the model of "beauty" that society in general has, had to fight against the comments that minimized their professional success under the phrase "she is only there because she is pretty", and with this I just remembered this film that I will talk about today, because in general terms this is the message that this story seeks to convey, "beautiful women are much more than this".
Basada en la novela homónima de Amanda Brow, esta película fue estrenada en Noviembre del 2001 y conto con la dirección de Robert Luketic y la protagonización por Reese Witherspoon en el papel de Elle Woods, además de las actuaciones de Luke Wilson (Emmett Richmond), Victor Garber (Profesor Callahan), Matthew Davis (Warner) y Selma Blair (Vivian). La historia gira en torno a Elle Woods una chica californiana que parece tenerlo todo y que solo está esperando que su novio a fin le pida matrimonio, sin embargo él decide hacer algo totalmente distinto y terminar con ella e ir a la facultad de derecho de Harvard, así que en busca de su gran amor Elle también decide inscribirse y asistir a dicha universidad.
Based on the novel of the same name by Amanda Brow, this film was released in November 2001 and was directed by Robert Luketic and stars Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, as well as Luke Wilson (Emmett Richmond), Victor Garber (Professor Callahan), Matthew Davis (Warner) and Selma Blair (Vivian). The story revolves around Elle Woods a Californian girl who seems to have it all and is just waiting for her boyfriend to finally ask her to marry him, however he decides to do something completely different and break up with her and go to Harvard Law School, so in search of his great love Elle also decides to enroll and attend Harvard Law School.
El personaje de Elle es sin duda alguna de mis favoritos por encima de muchas películas, no solo porque me encanta la actriz, sino también por su historia y evolución a lo largo de la película, de hecho en muchas ocasiones me he sentido totalmente identificada con ella, desde el inicio Elle se plantea un objetivo y firmemente va detrás de este, y aunque en el transcurrir de la historia su objetivo cambia esto ocurre porque entiende que su camino no estaba orientado hacia donde realmente debía ir, y nuevamente su firmeza la llevan a alcanzar la meta, y es justamente esa tenacidad lo que hace que este personaje sea tan memorable para mi, aparte de todos los estereotipos que rompe su historia.
Elle's character is undoubtedly one of my favourites over many films, not only because I love the actress, but also because of her story and evolution throughout the film, in fact on many occasions I have felt totally identified with her, from the beginning Elle sets a goal and firmly goes after it, And although in the course of the story her objective changes this happens because she understands that her path was not oriented towards where she really should go, and again her firmness leads her to reach the goal, and it is precisely this tenacity what makes this character so memorable for me, apart from all the stereotypes that her story breaks.
Personalmente creo y siento que la historia de Elle es de empoderamiento, es una mujer que cumplía con ciertos cánones de belleza y que por esta razón era subestimada e intelectualmente menospreciada, pero que entendió que ser rubia y bonita no la definía ni la hacía menos inteligente o capaz de afrontar su carrera profesional, y la decisión que toma de demostrar y demostrarse que es completamente capaz de ser una excelente abogada, es lo que yo considero un ejemplo de empoderamiento, además que en ningún momento deja que su esencia se pierda, comenzó siendo una rubia fresa californiana y acabo siendo una rubia fresa californiana, porque eso la hacía sentir orgullosa y representaba su forma más autentica, y eso deja ver lo bien construida que fue esta historia.
I personally believe and feel that Elle's story is one of empowerment, she is a woman who met certain standards of beauty and for this reason was underestimated and intellectually undervalued, but who understood that being blonde and pretty did not define her or make her less intelligent or less capable of facing her professional career, and the decision she makes to demonstrate and prove to herself that she is fully capable of being an excellent lawyer, is what I consider an example of empowerment, and she never let her essence get lost, she started out as a California strawberry blonde and ended up being a California strawberry blonde, because that made her proud and represented her most authentic self, and that shows how well constructed this story was.
Aunque sea una de mis películas favoritas, no se puede obviar que tiene ciertos fallos, el primero quizá sea que se centra demasiado en Elle, si bien es la protagonista y de ella se trata la historia, siento que se me fueron algunos personajes que me habría gustado conocer un poco más, tal es el caso de Vivian de quien no se dice prácticamente nada y cuya función es primero ser la novia de Warner y enemiga de Elle, para luego convertirse en su máxima aliada, un giro que a mi arecer se da de forma muy brusca. Otro personaje del que siento que me quedaron debiendo historia fue de Emmett, quien aparece en momentos exactos y oportunos pero de quien realmente no se sabe mucho, mas allá de que es un excelente abogado que está comenzando su carrera y que desde el inicio tiene un flechazo con Elle, de verdad creo que fue un personaje que se pudo explorar mejor sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que termina siendo el interés amoroso de la protagonista.
Although it is one of my favourite films, it cannot be denied that it has certain flaws, the first is perhaps that it focuses too much on Elle, although she is the protagonist and the story is about her, I feel that I missed some characters that I would have liked to know a little more, such is the case of Vivian of whom practically nothing is said and whose function is first to be Warner's girlfriend and Elle's enemy, to later become her maximum ally, a turn that in my opinion is given very abruptly. Another character that I feel that I was left wanting for a story was Emmett, who appears in exact and opportune moments but of whom we don't really know much, beyond the fact that he is an excellent lawyer who is starting his career and who from the beginning has a crush on Elle, I really think it was a character that could have been explored better, especially considering that he ends up being the love interest of the protagonist.
De verdad esta película tiene un lugar ganado en mi corazón, es bastante consistente en cuanto al mensaje que busca transmitir y eso me agrada mucho, como toda historia tiene sus pequeñas fallas, pero estas no repercutieron en el éxito de la película, tanto así que hoy en día las misma aun es recodada con gran cariño por una buena parte de las personas que la han visto. Destaco que no hablare de la segunda película porque a mí personalmente no me gusto, así que me quedare solo con esta 😉.
Truly this film has a place in my heart, it is quite consistent in terms of the message it seeks to convey and that pleases me a lot, like any story has its small flaws, but these did not affect the success of the film, so much so that today it is still remembered with great affection by a good part of the people who have seen it. I emphasize that I will not talk about the second film because I personally did not like it, so I will stay only with this one 😉.

No puedo decir que esta película sea una de mis favoritas, pero si que me gusta ver la escena final en el juzgado y leyendo su reseña creo que esa escena es un claro ejemplo de como la inteligencia de una persona es subestimada por cómo se ve, su manera de hablar y hasta su estatus social.
Esa en definitiva es de mis escenas favoritas, una clara demostración de como la habían estado subestimando, incluso ella misma tal vez de manera inconsciente, aunque esa escena también demuestra que los pequeños detalles pueden ser los que mas resuenen y tengan significado.
Esta película es muy linda, también es de mis favoritas ya que todo esto me gusta, pero en lo que dices tienes mucha razón, esta sociedad está vinculada por estereotipos de belleza los cuales ponen en un hilo la capacidad de los seres humanos, también por las cosas que se dicen. Ser de un color, una raza o una religión diferente no te define como persona o cuan inteligente eres, eso va más allá de la belleza, va en principios, dedicación, paciencia, entrega y las ganas de alcanzar las metas, esta chica rompe con todo este paradigma que se crea en torno a ella.

Un abrazo para ti también @nathyortiz 💕, estoy de acuerdo en lo que dices, nuestra verdadera esencia va mucho mas allá de de nuestra belleza, color, ideología, religión, entre otros, y con ella también le sumamos nuestras capacidades intelectuales y profesionales, eso es algo que solo se puede demostrar a través de nuestro trabajo y dedicación.
A mi también me encantó esta película y la amé cuando la vi hace años, y fue precisamente porque ella se mantuvo firme y no dejo que nadie pudiera meterse en el medio, ninguna otra persona no iba a ser capaz de definirla. Cuando queremos algo, nosotros tenemos que ir detrás de eso, hoy en día yo soy una personaje muy persistente con lo que quiero, ya no me rindo tan fácilmente primero doy batalla y en la mayoría de los casos termino alcanzo mi propósito
Su firmeza es algo que yo de verdad admire desde el primer momento en que vi la película, y creo que esa misma firmeza fue la que la llevo a no perder su esencia durante el recorrido de su objetivo, y creo que eso también es muy importante, no perdernos a nosotros mismos mientras transitamos una meta.
This is such a classic! I watched this a few times in the past and totally relate to the message of this film. I guess the film does the job in spreading the message across. These days, I see people use this as an inspiration to level up as well.
It really fulfils its function, and in fact one of the things that impresses me most about the film is that it is from 2001, which means that nowadays it has become quite common for films to give a message of empowerment and breaking stereotypes, but for its time it was not what was expected of stories and even less of the genre of this film, so in my opinion that also makes it stand out.
