Arrival in Sapporo: An Exciting Start

After heading north from Osaka, our excursion landed us in Sapporo, where we settled in for two days of adventures. Recognized for its vibrant entertainment districts and iconic billboards, the city buzzed with life even past 9:30 PM. The evening was promising with enticing queues outside popular eateries, particularly one famed for its miso ramen—a Sapporo specialty.

The dining experience was nothing short of delightful as I tried my first bowl of miso ramen, opting for a 'little spicy' version. The addition of a generous chunk of butter elevated my meal, confirming the adage that local favorites lead to the best flavors. A decisive convert to the wonders of miso ramen, I felt my culinary journey in Sapporo had commenced with a delicious bang.

Spectacular Coastlines and Cape Kamui

The following day greeted us with favorable weather conditions, propelling us toward Cape Kamui and the charming seaside city of Otaru. As we traversed this picturesque route, the cape, known for its striking 'Shakotan blue' waters, presented stunning views and intriguing rock formations.

Attractively adorned with yellow wildflowers, the landscape around Cape Kamui was both captivating and serene. The narrow path led us to the iconic lighthouse where we learned about the Ainu legend regarding the Kamui rocks—believed to embody gods. The inviting waters and fascinating geological features added depth to our exploration, igniting conversations about local folklore and aquatic adventures.

Culinary Delights in Yoishi

Lunch brought a delightful surprise as we stumbled upon a hidden gem in Yoishi. Opting for the 'special menu,' which included four exquisite courses for approximately $15, we were treated to an artistic presentation of flavors. A notable highlight was the restaurant's special whipped butter accompanied by a heartwarming pumpkin soup. The main course—a freshly caught fish—underscored the restaurant’s commitment to local flavors.

Our culinary journey did not end there; we also indulged in a beautifully crafted vanilla panna cotta with homemade pistachio ice cream. It was clear that Yoishi had a lot to offer in terms of quality dining, and we left feeling thoroughly satisfied and enriched by the local tastes.

The famed steam clock, a gift from Vancouver, marked the city’s identity with its charming, steampunk ambiance.

Afterward, we visited delightful stores that showcased a medley of jewelry and music boxes, each more appealing than the last. The atmosphere pulsed with romance as we rounded off our day with a visit to a parfait shop, notorious for its artistic dessert presentations, sampling layers of delightful flavors that ended our day on a sweet note.
