An interesting aspect of this technique is its versatility even when the underlying data is not explicitly listed. For example, if individual totals for each cookie type were deleted, you could still calculate the grand total in a streamlined fashion.
Start the formula again in cell I6:

Then, while holding the Control key, you can select ranges rather than individual cells. Click and drag to highlight the first range you want to sum, release the mouse, and then, while still holding Control, select the subsequent ranges through the same click-and-drag method. Once all desired ranges are selected, press Enter to get your total.
