With the game hanging in the balance, the momentum seemed to swing decisively when NC State quarterback CJ Bailey executed a quarterback keeper. As he attempted to pivot to the left, the unexpected happened: the ball was jarred loose, and ECU's Chad Stevens scooped it up, racing towards the end zone for what appeared to be a game-changing touchdown. However, the officials intervened, rolling the play dead due to a perceived forward progress stoppage, declaring that Bailey was down before the fumble.
