The secondary coil is arguably the most recognizable feature of Tesla coils. Jay constructed this component from PVC pipe, skillfully winding wire around it to generate the high voltages characteristic of Tesla coils. After wrapping the ends with electrical tape to prevent corona discharge, he topped the coil with a decorative item to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
The primary coil, another loop of wire that interacts closely with the secondary coil, was implemented next. This interaction is what allows energy transfer and the production of those iconic sparks. Awareness of insulation became paramount here, as insufficient spacing between the coils could lead to disastrous insulation failures in the past.
