As the game kicked off, the Bison's kicker, Eli Ozik, sent the ball deep to Maxwell Woods of the Jackrabbits. Woods showcased his speed, returning the ball to the 20-yard line, setting the stage for a potent Jackrabbit offense. South Dakota State quickly made its presence felt, utilizing running back TK Marshall effectively in the passing game. The Bison defense found themselves stretched, with quarterback Cam Miller connecting on a deep ball to Bryce Lance, gaining significant yardage as North Dakota State drove into scoring territory.
