In the years that followed, Ed Walsh emerged as one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball history. The 1907 season marked a significant milestone as he led the league in various statistical categories, including wins and earned run average (ERA). But his 1908 season remains unmatched, as he became only the second pitcher to achieve 40 wins in a single season, clocking in at 464 innings pitched.
His numbers that season—a 40-15 record, 269 strikeouts, and 11 shutouts—are a testament to his unwavering endurance and effectiveness on the mound. Following this, he continued to lead the league in various metrics, maintaining an exceptional performance up until the 1912 season, which proved to be his last peak year.
