After his playing days, Walsh turned to umpiring and coaching, and in 1946, he was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame. He passed away on May 26, 1959, at the age of 78, but his legacy lived on. In 1999, he was named the 82nd greatest player of all time by The Sporting News and later became a finalist for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.
