Part 3/6:

Long before European explorers arrived, the indigenous Cree people thrived in the Hudson Bay region for hundreds of years. Their ancestral connection to the land laid the groundwork for the Bay's historical significance.

The Bay itself was first charted in 1610 by the English explorer Sir Henry Hudson. On a quest for a westward route to China and the Indies, Hudson inadvertently entered Hudson Bay via the Hudson Strait, only to find his ship trapped in ice.

Hudson and his crew braved the winter aboard the ship but ultimately found themselves in a precarious position. A mutiny arose among the crew, weary of the harsh conditions and yearning to return home. The ultimate fate of Hudson, his son, and the loyal crewmates remains unknown, marking a dramatic chapter in the Bay's history.
