Fast forward to modern subterranean societies, where individuals often find themselves living beneath bustling metropolises. In cities like Las Vegas, an estimated 1,500 people call the 600 miles of tunnels beneath the city home. These underground dwellers create a unique community amidst the challenges posed by poverty, addiction, and mental illness.
Likewise, in New York City, over 2,000 individuals are believed to inhabit neglected subway tunnels and forgotten sections of the city. These “Mole People,” as they are sometimes referred to, have established a makeshift society that mirrors life above ground, albeit with a heightened sense of danger and adversity.
