Bergson’s critique of “measured time,” or clock time, reveals a stark contrast with the notion of “duration.” He argues that traditional time, divided into seconds, minutes, and hours, is merely an abstract construct designed to organize human life. This mechanical view of time, while practical, can rob us of the deeper experiences of life that are integral to our consciousness. Bergson coined the term “duration” to highlight this subjective, personal experience of time, which cannot be measured but can only be felt.
