Not all bizarre experiments focused strictly on life and death; the boundaries of morality were also challenged in the realm of human psychology. The CIA's MK Ultra program conducted secretive mind control experiments in the 1950s and 60s. Scientists attempted to develop techniques for brainwashing and interrogation utilizing LSD, hypnosis, and psychological torture on unsuspecting subjects, including patients in mental hospitals. The haunting results included long-term psychological damage suffered by many of the test subjects. When the project was eventually exposed, it became one of the most shocking scandals in American history, illustrating the dangerous edges of human experimentation.
