The first encounter with Emperor Montezuma was nothing short of theatrical. Carried on a lavish sedan adorned with jewels, Montezuma's arrival emphasized his status and the power of the Aztec civilization. To the conquistadors, this meeting was laden with tension, as both sides sought to assert dominance while grappling with the unfolding reality that they were gazing upon opposite ideals of authority.

Cortés, fully aware of the precariousness of their situation, resorted to manipulation and diplomacy, initially playing along with Montezuma’s apparent expectations of reverence while simultaneously strategizing to secure their foothold in this alien territory.
