While education and literacy thrived in monastic settings, much of the populace was focused on subsistence living and survival, resulting in a lack of recorded history.
This perspective frames the Middle Ages not as an absent chapter but rather as a neglected one, rich with untold stories and progress but overshadowed by the later Renaissance period, which tends to dominate narratives of European history.
