Most religions attribute morality to divine commandments, but Buddhism offers a different outlook. Instead of adhering to commands from a god, Buddhists base their moral framework on wisdom and compassion. They follow the Five Precepts—guidelines aimed at promoting ethical living, which include refraining from killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct, and intoxication.
A Different View on Divine Beings
While Buddhism acknowledges the existence of heavenly beings known as devas, these entities do not hold the same elevated status as a creator god. Devas are part of the cycle of existence and subject to rebirth, lacking the omnipotence and eternal nature attributed to gods in other faiths.
