More web3 businesses needed

in LeoFinance14 days ago (edited)

I was chatting with my friend Eddie Espino (@eddiespino) about the price of $HIVE and wether we'll see some price action this Moon Season™. I think it's inevitable that we'll see some price action in the coming months, BUT it got me thinking about the real holy grail of web 3: building self-contained parallel economies in which everything can be done without having to resort to fiat conversions.

Picture this:

On the far left of the chart is YOU! A content creator in the beautiful ecosystem that is HIVE. You participate regularly in weekly prompts like #ThoughfulDailyPost and #DIY. Because of your activity you've been rewarded with $HIVE and $HBD for years now, and you now have a nice stack of liquid HIVE/HBD. You've also decided to start your sticker production business for which you'll need a website.

HiveStickers.com: premium quality stickers that you can order online and have them delivered to your customers' doorstep.

You find a fellow Hivean who has awesome website design skills and can make a website that looks great, is super snappy, and can even integrate crypto payments to your site. Because you're both Hiveans, you agree to do business using HBD as payment. Of course, this is a lot of work and he'll need some help to make the website look pretty, so he hires a graphic designer who also happens to be a happy Hivean and is happy to accept HBD as payment. After the amazing website hivestickers.com is up and running, everybody gets paid and our graphic designer decides to go spend some of his earnings at Econo Quesos in Cumaná, Venezuela, a shop that also accepts HBD as payment.

Econo Quesos accepts the $HBD in exchange for some groceries and five minutes later gets a delivery order from YOU and so they pay a delivery guy to bring your order to your doorsptep on a motorcycle. The payment is also in HBD and the circle is closed.

Cool, right?

This is just one example of what could be bought and sold using native HIVE tokens. I've already brought my recording studio services to HIVE with @recording-box, where we happily accept payment for studio time with HIVE and HBD.

We also do our best to spread education about the Hive ecosystem and how well it integrates with other networks such as the Bitcoin Lightning network, making it easy for anybody to spend HIVE/HBD at any shop that accepts Bitcoin.

So my next question to everybody out there is: Do you have a talent that can be exchanged for $HBD? If you're already on HIVE, let's have a chat about it. If you haven't brought your talent to HIVE, perhaps let us know what you're missing and the community can help you get started.

Nice, I agree! Thank you for expanding your reply in this post.

I have received HIVE or HBD as a salary for almost four years, but here in Mexico, I cannot find places to spend it directly. I can pay for services offered by Hivers, and I've done that.

Having circular economies would be a great way to keep the value within Hive.

If they accept Bitcoin, they accept HIVE. I've been to a few places in Mexico City that accept bitcoin over Lightning. They can be a bit tricky to find sometimes though. No matter what people say, we're still early. The thing is not to lose this mindset. Doing business in web3 is outside of government jurisdiction and thus can't be taxed. This should be incentive enough for more businesses to build on web3.

We need that circular economy on HIVE to embrace it even more! It is the most obvious use case that it can have and the easiest to explain to newbies... Despite HivePower having so many great sides, people are more interested in spending money than empowering themselves... So, HBD payments, go go go !!!

Nice explanation of a circular economy! It's great to see some small businesses accepting crypto payments and it's even greater to see people USING that option!!

I often ask myself why most people don't save, you know, spend less than they earn, let alone invest in revenue-producing assets. I know everybody's financial situation, but if you make $100 per month, you can always save $0.25. Or why are some people obese, when they could eat healthier food and spend less? I could give many more examples, but my point is the majority seems to always seek instant gratification instead of looking and the real, long-term benefits of things. Hive gives us and our businesses way more than a few cents from the reward pool. It gives us freedom to transact with anybody anywhere in seconds, peer-to-peer, without censorship, voter rights, and whole bunch of tools that are ready to use right now, not to mention everything that is being developed... but I'm preaching to the choir here :)

but if you make $100 per month, you can always save $0.25.

Oh, man... Don't make me start about that... I remember BuzzParty, Hamburg where I mentioned exactly that, at the Q & A part of my presentation... And the best argument is that you didn't have those $100 at all when you joined HIVE... and you earned them, for example... So, if you didn't even have them, you know to live WITHOUT them, so saving $1 wouldn't hurt you at all...

In the end, I want to believe that people don't understand how HIVE works and that's why they don't power up... But, I'm afraid that they do, but they are just selfish, without thinking of adding value to their followers, readers, friends, etc.

I remember paying some 20 Hive, that was like 3 years ago for a photo they had, and I told them I wanted a copyright of it, and till today, I think I still own this photo and still use it when I create content, so I think a lot of people have a lot to offer. I've offered some a piece of content and they promise me some HBD if it goes well for them

I absolutely agree, lots of people have value to offer, we just need to make those connections easier and more frequent. Artist, designers, developers and experts in all kinds of different areas.

Indeed, I think this is part of what Hive is likely to morph into; a business place where a lot of commercial activities can be possible

I personally think this is a way stronger use case than "come, blog, earn". Some people unfortunately think it's magic and they'll be as rich as Microstrategy by making 300 word blog posts.

This is a very good topic and initiative. I agree that we definitely need more services and businesses in web3. Unfortunately I hate coding and don't have much to offer. I am looking forward to supporting more of these businesses as they come. I do hope the upcoming altcoin bullrun can entice more entrepreneurs and business owners to try web3.

I'm sure rising prices will bring more users to the blockchain. I encourage anybody who has something of value they can offer to the community to come offer it on HIVE.

Someone asked for more businesses?

onboarded 3 in Buenos Aires today:
https://hive.blog/introduceyourself/@lasazonexplosiva/la-sazon-explosiva-ya-es

You're absolutely amazing man.

I have actually worked for Hive (and Steem) several times, but they were just gigs. A bit of copywriting and proofreading. There's not really demand for these in Czech in the Hive-universe, though.

Well maybe there's another talent you have that is in higher demand that can also be exchanged for $HIVE. I've actually done some video editing on HIVE and have done pretty well. Some projects have cut down on video production during the bear market, but now that things are picking up, there might be new demand for those kind of services.

Well, I can drink beer like few others ;) And mock people, hope that's something with bright future :)

Mock & Bock

It's up to you to work on the idea.

Cheers mate! :)

I've always been puzzled someone hasn't set up a Gift-card business where you can pay with Hive or HBD.

Sort of like Gyft , https://www.gyft.com/ but where you pay with Hive instead of bitcoin.

I understand their business model is they buy vouchers at a discount from Amazon etc, and then sell them at face value. The difference is their profit.

There you go! it's up for grabs then :) Sounds easy to implement and a nice first-mover advantage. Do it!

I would say that people should adopt crypto for payments. It defines what's written on the white paper of $BTC.

Yes, that's step #1. Accepting crypto as a form of payment. After that we can advertise, create communities, collaborations and content around our web3 business.

cheers, that's the goal 🥂

This is what Hive/HBD is all about, and with the tools we have, a circular economy is achievable. We just need producers, merchants, and service providers to adopt it. For this to happen, help from users like us will be crucial to achieving this goal.

I think you're right. We already have the tools to make a circular economy a reality. We just need more merchants to hop on board and to show users how easy it is.

True. Keychain is actually a very good tool for it.

The challenge now is to educate people regarding crypto, keys, and how to manage it.

And then onboard more people to the chain.

That's one of the many reasons i appreciate the spend hbd project.
Eith that project many will come to know about hive

What are some advantages of bringing one’s talent or business to the HIVE ecosystem, can we hammer down that message I think its going to be easier to invite people here.

And how might the community help new members integrate their skills into this Web 3 economy?

If your skill or business is not yet exposed to web3, the very first advantage is reaching a new audience outside the borders of the country you live in, which takes me to advantage #2: business done outside your country's borders does NOT require you to pay taxes. You might also be able to find synergy with someone else, in other words, something you do together that is better than the sum of both separate efforts.

How might we help new members? We can always lead by example and create educational content in written or video format.

Excellent answer, which should actually attract people. Only thing people need is someone taking the lead showing that it is possible.

Subtitle movies or videos for HBD or Hive?
Graphic design for other users on Hive?
You’ve got a good thought and there are so many things we can do

Absolutely! these are great services that are very much needed to build different kind of businesses. The possibilities are endless!

selling art for Hive would be nice. I would be nervous about sending pieces to other countries. But at the same time I would love to get big pile of Hive/HBD.

What if clients pay upfront for your art and shipping costs. You can also sell digital art without leaving the platform.

That would be nice. Maybe I should learn digital art after all. So far I only added some movement and made NFT in NFT showroom I thought that my prices were fair but I only managed to sell 1 nft piece.

That sounds amazing.
The idea of building self-contained parallel economies within the Hive ecosystem is truly revolutionary.
It's great to see the potential for conducting business and transactions without the need for fiat conversion.

It's not just an idea any more. It's a reality and with every enterprise, small business and freelancer that comes to offer their services here, the ecosystem only gets more robust. One day we might be able to see most business happen within the ecosystem.

we need more activities who accept hive and hbd, sadly its a tiny niche so far, no one even accepts other crypto payments here...so only solution is bitrefill

Do you have a service you could offer on HIVE? Now might be the time to offer it and maybe make a nice addition to your cryptocurrency stack.

Sadly the only service i could offer is coaching on rts games (dead genre now unfortunately) or betting exchange tips ...not sure how many people would be interested... art is not my thing

i would like to increase hbd, thanks to v4vapp lighting i could buy a supermarket coupon and successfully use it which is amazing

!PIZZA

By the way, this is incorrect

no one even accepts other crypto payments here...so only solution is bitrefill

Lots of folks accept crypto payments and everybody that accepts Bitcoin also accepts HIVE and HBD thanks to v4v.app

Oh no I mean phisical shops here in Italy, no one wants btc, I used bitrefill and v4vapp to pay with hbd

Here in El Salvador people do not accept nothing less than btc I hope one day we could received an hbd as payment system.

Any place that accepts Bitcoin over Lightning accepts $HBD thanks to @keychain and @v4vapp. I spend a lot of time buying things at shops that accept Bitcoin in El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala, maybe you've seen some of my videos on X?

I haven't been able to post videos lately due to @threespeak being down at the moment, but I've decided I'll post them directly on X for a while until they're back up and running.

Really, I will try to do, because some days it could necessary to interchanged a little here in E S I review.

It happens in different countries, everything we buy with the currency of this platform will be its publicity and people will know about it.

Every Hive account is a Web3 enabled business out of a box. It is up to the account owner/Hive user how to develop her/his business. Some may decide to make some money as a blogger, by play2earn games or like you suggest offer products/services.

But what we are doing is basically Web2 business in Web3 space - Hive. With Hive, as a small business owners, we can go beyond Web2 and really Web3 enable our business which is creation and equitable distribution of wealth among the business owners and the customers:
