RE: Talk 5/12/21 - Come Join Our Chat (Part 1)

Seems like number of new users who joined Hive is around 300 everyday .

But half of them are active and half of them aren't .

Do you think 300 users per day is a good number ? I think not , we gotto pump those numbers up :p

Sort:

We need more but I am more worried about the retention rate after they come to HIVE.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

True , the "active" members section I guess is based on only that day . Like say making a comment/ post , we should see if they are active in a month or a week .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yea but should we be including auto-voting? I wouldn't since they could just set up Hive.vote

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

The problem is ,as far as I know, there is no way to know if a person is auto-voting or not unless the people who handles hive.vote share the details .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Maybe we should make assumptions regarding if the user is autovoting or not. 🤔

For example, if the user votes at (approximately) the same time as other users for a single post or comment, then they are most likely part of a curation trail. If the user votes a post exactly after 5 (or so) minutes, then they are most likely part of a fanbase. 🤔🤔

You may be onto something there. I'm sure there are always to recognize those patterns and achieve just what you mentioned.

I wouldn't know where to even start, but I think it's possible lol

Even that said, I know it's difficult to determine between automatic votes and manual votes. 😅

I think it is hard as there are various different types of auto voters. Some wait till later and check the value of a certain comment/post before voting and etc. So it is tough to figure out whether or not they are truly active or not.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Maybe there should just be a category where voters (either automatic or manual) are excluded. 🤔

The problem is that there isn't really a way to find out without asking the auto-voting applications who is using it.

I dont think they end up staying long term. Our activity is not really improving that much. We will just have to keep on pushing and see where all this ends up.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yea.. the retention rate is killing us

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It would be interesting to know what is considered "active". I know that usually digital products have a very low bar to measure that.. I wonder what is the case here

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

what is considered "active".

Any transaction on Hive . Custom_json or post or comment or even a vote .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Newbie retention rate on Hive must be crap considering the number of things they have to learn.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yea, the curve is definitely steep

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think it is a good number if the 150 active per day remain and art strong contributors. Obviously that is a small number overall but if we could add 4,000 regular users a month, that would be terrific.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah but I really think the active users aren't as high as it is mentioned in the posts .

When a users registers , he tries the platform out , it's usual to check everything and maybe leave a comment or two but what is important is if he/she comes back tomorrow .

That particular data isn't available from the post .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah I agree with you. There is no way to tell if they are truly being active. Judging by the amount of activity, I do not believe so. It seems like we are dealing with the same people for the most part.

It seems like we are dealing with the same people for the most part.

True but I think the next hard fork might help a bit ?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That's too bad... it would be nice to have that kind of data.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah , I did that for LeoFinance couple of weeks ago . How many users registered from LeoFinance frontend and how active they were but believe me it was so hard to get those details and put them together .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well, it's definitely a start. But I think retention and DAU are more important metrics to our use cases

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Agree . There is very less importance given to data overall on Hive to be honest .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's a bad number. Each Dapp should focus on how to onboard new people apart from developing their product.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Very true .
Atleast we should do something about retention .

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's one of the most important factors of growth. Especially when it comes to social media platforms.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

But half of them are active and half of them aren't .

Isn't it always a numbers game. I see a worse rate in my online marketing on the centralized platform. I believe if we can put an emphasis on knowing what is it that people are searching for, why did they come in first place; perhaps keeping folks around and active would be easier? Somehow, that retention will cause a chain reaction in bringing more folks in?

Exactly . I have mentioned this many times but it was overlooked .

If we provide them some kind of form to fill as soon as they sign up in return for HP delegation for a month or 2 , it will help the user as well as Hive .

If it’s kept simplest can’t hurt.
