The fake news have been on a rise in recent times . How do you think can we prevent it ?
- We can create more awareness among people not to believe everything they see but this means they won't believe the real news too .
- There are many AI out there which actually scrapes the net to see if news is fake or not .
- Many organization are doing a good job in "fact-checking" .
But what can we do more to curb it ? Will things like deep-fake becoming harder and harder for us to detect , we will see more and more misinformation being spread .

Watch both sides and figure out what to believe. I see if they are willing to recognize their own short-falls and who has actual data to back it up.

I think part of the solution is to have a diverse news/research set. When I lived in Europe, I was surprised at how the same story in the US had a different slant in the EU. "Anti-war protesters" in NY, became "Peace Activists" in Berlin. "Officer Involved Shooting" in Chicago, became "Police Shooting" in London. "Improvised Explosive Device" in DC, became "Homemeade Bomb" in Rome.
Framing works.

We have some good organizations here in brazil doing that so I always try to point people to them when I see signs of fake news.
Also, if it's something about a subject that I understand I try to break it down and use facts and data to debunk it.

I keep hearing about something called "Canal" down there, seems to be some sort of network.

Hmm not sure what it could be... it means "Channel" in Portuguese so it sounds like a network indeed but I don't really know which one

I think I agree with jfang and this would be choosing option 1. I think with a more educated society, each person would be able to detect which is true or false news.

I learned a lot when I worked as an overnight janitor for the summer at a newspaper.
The old-timers would show me how they would spin a story to acheive a desired outcome. Little things such as choosing an unflattering picture of someone they didn't like in order to subtly turn the reader against the person.
I still recall the pic they published of a politician with his eye squeezed shut as he was yawning. They had plenty of good pics available, but delibratlty chose that one to undercut his message.

Yea, that's why I don't read the news anymore... their goal is selling ads and not information

The media have always been deceitful. They manage to manipulate at will, it is barbaric.

People believe what they choose to believe even when presented evidence to prove their beliefs wrong.
Try to convince a flat-earther that the earth is round. Convince an antivaccer that vaccines are necessary for public health and the spread of highly infectious diseases. Convince me that caviar (fish eggs) are delicious.
