Concerts are cancelled all over the place, and as a freelancer I was 'supposed' to have a year's buffer stashed away somewhere. Plus, there are people who treat the cultural sector as a 'hobby' so there is very little in the way of support...
Despite a of this, I pull my weight and understand the necessity of these hardships for the good of society in general (and so it galls me when others put their own personal interests first). Plus, I have no issue at targeted subsidies and government help towards other sectors as people are hurting... But I wish people would have less animosity towards our sector.
Anyway, we survive.. Our expenses are low and the loss of income is painful but not (yet) crippling. It is a painful topic that affects different people in different ways and degrees...
In hindsight it'll be easier to determine what was a good idea and what was not I guess. I think there will be a few issues identified. I don't like people having a go at others for grants or stimulus packages or for judging other people's situations; Each of our issues are our own and as such are important to the individual. It's a time to pull in the same direction, not opposing.
Thanks for your comment and I hope things pick up for you, and all of us, soon.
Exactly, that is why I don't have any problem with other sectors getting timely help. I wish that was a sentiment that was more widely shared though!
People are unsure and probably thinking little about others at the moment. I guess I don't blame them but I can't help but recall the phrase, if you have nothing good to say then don't say anything. Many more people should practice that.
Too true, best of luck for the meeting!
