Have you ever been the victim of fake news on social media? Fake UFO sightings, crypto giveaways, or Taylor Swift nudes perhaps? Imagine for a moment that you could verify a video or photo came from a known and trustworthy source, and put an end to the misinformation.
That could very well be the future with Nodle Network, a smartphone-powered DePIN project that not only verifies the authenticity of photos and videos by leveraging blockchain technology, but rewards users for capturing Bluetooth and location data as well.
In this post, we discuss how Nodle Network could be used to combat fake news on social media, and how its users have responded to a recent migration from the Polkadot ecosystem to zkSync Era, a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum.
Nodle's Click App
In a previous article, we briefly discussed how Nodle's Click app could revolutionize content monetization by properly rewarding the original creators of memes, photos, and videos. But the app could do even more than that.
By allowing users to cryptogaphically sign their content on a blockchain before uploading it to social media, Click could also put a stop to the excess misinformation we have seen online in recent years.
By adopting an app like Click, we could determine if a video has been uploaded by a real person with a solid reputation, or if it was just part of some scam or another psy op. In a world full of AI-powered deep fake videos, content verification is becoming ever more crucial.
NODL Rewards
In addition to verifying photo and video authenticity, users who install the Nodle app on their phone (or integrate its SDK into their own application) will earn NODL tokens for supporting the network's decentralized IoT infrastructure.
The app uses bluetooth to communicate with nearby devices and records information. The collected data is then sent to the cloud, and you earn NODL tokens in return for your contributions. This is much better than just giving everything to Google and Apple by default, and for free.
NODL Tokenomics
The NODL token has a maximum supply of 21 billion, and 60% have been allocated for mining rewards that smartphone owners earn for running the Nodle mobile client.
NODL is also available for purchase on zkSync Era decentralized exchanges such as Koi and SyncSwap. You will need to bridge mainnet Ethereum to zkSync before you can use these exchanges to buy tokens, however.
Migration to zkSync Era
The Nodle Network minted their token back in 2020 on the Stellar blockchain, before moving to its own dedicated chain. After that, the project decided to migrate to a Polkadot parachain, and has finally settled on zkSync Era.
Some users have been displeased with the most recent migration to zkSync, as they now have to claim their rewards manually.
Until next time...
The Nodle Network was originally founded back in 2017, and has already survived through a couple of bear markets, which is a good indicator that the team has honorable intentions. The goal of eliminating fake news is indeed a noble one.
Although migrating the token four times doesn't evoke thoughts of stability, the developers argue that zkSync is faster, cheaper, and offers more support that Polkadot did, and for that reason Nodle made the final migration to zkSync.
