Part 1/5:

The True Tale Behind "War of the Hirin"

Liana recently shared the release of the first trailer for the upcoming anime movie "War of the Hirin" produced by Warner Brothers, slated to hit theaters this Christmas. Though she plans to discuss her impressions of the trailer in detail next week, for now, she encourages viewers to explore the true story that the film supposedly draws inspiration from.

The Story of Helm Hammerhand

The narrative begins with Helm, a stern and powerful king known for his great strength. His reign was challenged by a man named Freca, who became wealthy and powerful through vast lands surrounding the Adorn River. Despite Freca's growing influence, Helm was wary and summoned him for counsel, but the relationship was fraught with tension.

Part 2/5:

Freca, seeking a political alliance, asked Helm for the hand of his daughter in marriage for his son, Wolf. Helm denied this request outright and further insulted Freca, remarking on his expanding waistline. This led to a heated exchange where Helm ultimately struck Freca, killing him instantly. Following this confrontation, Helm declared Freca's kin as enemies, prompting them to flee.

The Siege of Helm's Deep

Fast-forward four years, and the realm of Rohan faced dire challenges. Gondor was under siege from Umbar's fleets, and Rohan found itself vulnerable to invasions from the east. Seizing the opportunity, the remnants of Freca's family, led by Wolf, rallied against Helm. They succeeded in taking the capital Edoras and crowned Wolf as king in Meduseld.

Part 3/5:

With Helm displaced and suffering heavy losses, he retreated to the Hornburg—situated high in the mountains. However, winter soon fell upon Rohan, and both sides suffered immense hardship due to the cold and scarcity of resources. Survival became increasingly desperate within the walls of Helm's Deep, leading to mutinies as provisions dwindled.

In the midst of the chaos, desperate characters emerged. Helm, driven by hunger and loss, became a fearsome figure, roaming the snowy plains alone, killing enemies with bare hands. Legends began to surface, claiming that Helm, upon his death, continued to haunt his foes, striking fear into their hearts.

The Recapture of Edoras

Part 4/5:

After Helm’s chilling demise, a new challenger emerged in the form of Frealaf—the son of Helm's sister Hud. He guided a small band of warriors back to Meduseld, where he confronted and killed Wolf, reclaiming Edoras for Rohan.

Following the brutal winter, nature itself seemed to shift in favor of Rohan. Floods swept through the valley after the snow melted, causing chaos among the invaders who ultimately retreated. By the end of 2759, reinforcements from Gondor arrived, and Rohan expelled Freca's remnants from their lands.

Helm was ultimately honored posthumously, laid to rest in the Ninth Tomb while white flowers known as simbelmynë bloomed densely, symbolizing eternal remembrance.

Reflecting on the Adaptation

Part 5/5:

Liana concludes her video by inviting viewers to reflect on how the original tale may differ from what they will witness on screen. In the coming days, she promises deeper insights into the "War of the Hirin" trailer and expresses gratitude towards her supporters and new channel members for their continued engagement.

As the release of the film looms, fans of both the original lore and new audiences alike remain curious about how the adaptation will bridge the compelling narrative of Helm Hammerhand with contemporary storytelling.
