The Destiny module launched on February 7th, 2001 aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis. The installation of Destiny began on February 10th, 2001.

Destiny is the U.S. lab portion of the ISS. It was NASA's first permanent operating orbital research station since Skylab was abandoned in 1974.

Destiny is 28ft long with a diameter of 14ft. At the time it was added to the ISS, it increased the habitable volume by 41%.
