Think For Me

I wonder how the World will look at those who refuse to embrace AI wholeheartedly in ten to fifteen years. Probably, we may be seen as non-progressives who are adamant to change. All valid concerns and fears by then will have been silenced and may even be a taboo to raise depending on the level of dependence the people have on AI.

With the rapid level of embrace it isn't that hard to imagine an AI takeover in a few years. It is simply because the voices pushing back are so few, and those who are in the development race are pushing it quite aggressively. As a consumer we're like sitting ducks because improved AI will be thrown into our faces on a constant basis with each promising more ease than what was previously available.

When chatgpt came out I think many people embraced it out of sheer curiosity. These days people are turning to AI out of boredom or laziness and it certainly isn't a healthy practice to think of down the stretch. There is the very real danger of being too dependent on AI and losing our ability to think or problem solve as humans. It is one that I believe will greatly impact the quality of our lives negatively hence the need for caution.

As we have seen already, easier processes are not necessarily a standard for happiness and fulfillment. Instead, they are more of an excuse not to fix up the things we should. Human struggle and even mistakes are part of the wholistic experiences life has to offer. Eliminating that without caution is something we should be mindful of.

Sort:

Making things "easier, more friendly, and convenient" it's just making users*consumers "dumber". And it's really easy to do that, unfortunately.

AI is just another tool. It's a progression from indexes of pages, keywords search, full text search, language models, ... It's still stupid and there is no real intelligence in it but that's no excuse. It's changing our lives and making us more and more submissive to whoever holds the computing power.

Realizing that is a first step to freedom. Yet it isn't enough.
