The BRO Phenomenon

in LeoFinance2 years ago

Almost a month ago I wrote a post about alternative passive investments for HIVE.

I thought it was a good time for me to check how returns for projects and products that are related to HIVE in one way or another (mainly from my list I compiled then) were doing.

As more and more people become fascinated by the defi component of Splinterlands (for good reason), one project may fly under the radar: @BROFund.

I included it in my post from a month ago, but even then I escaped one important aspect of it, of which Raymond reminded me in a comment:

Don't forget that we're the only token that hasn't lost to hive since the crash. In fact, we've moved from 4 Hive to now 7 Hive since Hive lost its value

BROFund

And, after seeing Raymond's comment from back then, I had to go check the price of BRO during the past 30 days. Here it is:

image.png

Comparing the increase in the price of BRO over the last 30 days (the lows, to avoid anomalies introduced by huge wicks), it's a 67.82% rise, from 4.91 to 8.24 HIVE.

The increase is in HIVE, not in USD, and HIVE has been on a downtrend recently.

image.png

But when most Hive-Engine tokens are taking a beating, to be decoupled and forge your own path is rare. Even SPS and DEC from Splinterlands struggle to overcome market conditions.

Although I don't directly buy BRO because my goals still need a lot of focus until the year-end, I do have a sizeable delegation (for my holdings) going to the project, for which I receive BRO in return, daily. And BRO pays HIVE dividends weekly, as I mentioned in my post from last month, and these small returns in HIVE add up toward my HIVE Power goal.

Now, is BRO better than something like SPS-SWAP.HIVE, which pays 76.62% APR currently?

I don't think so, even though its price increased by 67% in HIVE in the last month. It's just... different. For a long-term hold, I really like BRO. It doesn't have the liquidity Splinterlands tokens have, so I'm not sure what are the options if someone wants to sell a high quantity of BRO. But I believe it's a solid project, and apparently, the market agrees.

I recently purchased some BRO (approx 70+ Bro). I kind of believe in Raymondspeaks and invested this amount in him rather than the project I would believe.

While so far BRO is heading towards the right direction and the way Ray is handling them very wisely. I am going to hold the BRO's for a long time. Let's see where it actually goes in the coming days!

Yep, he turned out to be a great manager for BROfund. Made the right calls at the right time (specifically about Splinterlands and changing dividends to HIVE), from what I remember him sharing publicly.

I wonder when LEO will start to catch up... It's been lagging a lot for some good months now.

I'm expecting when the ad buybacks kick in around December.

A little bit of buying pressure will drive up the price with such low liquidity.

When price goes up then so will the interest in leo.

Good point.

I have no idea, man! My strategy is to build and wait. Its time will come.

I have to admit that the growth is really impressive!!! Good job!!

Where we can find some numbers about it... The APR for HP delegations, APR for holding the token, etc.? I know that numbers are changing as the price goes up and down, but it would be nice to have details about it in one place...
Thanks for sharing your view!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

I was wondering about that as well. Even the first time when I wrote about the project.

PS: Looks like I double commented, once here and once on your post.

If I have calculated well, APR on HP delegations is around 8.5%, but I could be wrong... For HODLing BRO tokens, I couldn't do it as I have no idea what do you get for doing that...
Also, the good thing is that they buyback BRO tokens from the market to pay HP dividends, which isn't the case with some other projects...

You were counting only the BRO received for delegation, right?

But by increasing the BRO holdings, the dividend will grow. The dividend itself fluctuates, so you can't calculate an APR for that. Or you can, but it will be different every time.

The votes on posts are also at different weights, so the weight isn't 100% influenced by your BRO holdings, although that might be a factor in how high the vote would be.

It's not easy to calculate the APR for BRO... If we factor in the increase in price, that automatically changes the APR if we calculate in HIVE or in USD.

Yes, that's right... BRO dividend value x 365 / HP delegation...

Hmmm... If I got it right, that's another layer of income and NOT an HP delegation income... So, it can't be just added to your HP delegation earnings... like APR on mining tokens, and after that staking mined tokens for further income...

This one I didn't know and it can be a game changer for people who post regularly... I know that many people profit from this type of earning on Liotes...

That's understandable and it works the other way around too... If the price goes down... Calculating APR on HP delegations isn't that complicated as you convert it in HIVE and that's it...

But, to have some insights, it would be nice to have some CURRENT numbers...

Sorry for the many questions... I like to do my research before going into something... lol...

Yes, we can say this is not the APR from the delegation. It's the dividends from holding BRO.

Yes, the votes come from the Brofi account.

That's understandable and it works the other way around too...

Agreed!

But, to have some insights, it would be nice to have some CURRENT numbers...

I calculated the APR for my latest BRO dividend. It is 2.36%.

How I did it. The dividend is paid weekly in HIVE. To "talk" in the same unit, I converted the HIVE payment to BRO at the closing price (which was the ask) from the date of the dividend payment. If I take the bid instead, it's 2.52%.

Divided the dividend (in BRO) by my BRO holdings at the time and multiplied by (365/7).

Nice to be recognised for the good work that we do. Thank you :) Let's just say "You aint seen nothin' yet!"

You aint seen nothin' yet!

That sounds promising. I'll be watching! :)

The growth of BRO is quite impressive.

Yes, it is. And easy to miss if one is not paying attention.

I have not been very active regarding my BRO, maybe it is time to add some here and there. Found your post on Listnerds!

Yeah, I haven't added much when it was affordable either. That's why a plan and targets are great.

The tokens rise is meteroic! Very impressive.

Maybe more HE tokens could look into what they are doing and see what works for them so well.

Bro is a nice hidden gem, Adrian.
Thanks for sharing the information.

Not so hidden, as it is well known as a HE dividend token. But not many are familiar with HE income/dividend tokens.

I like BRO as well but I am building my INDEX positions right now. However, it definitely is a solid project and there are assets outside of Hive so the value of the project is backed up.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Next year I wonder if I should include some HE tokens in my goals. INDEX is a nice token to have. I have some.

At least you expose yourself to this token and seem to believe in his outcome. You get some BRO with little effort with your delegation. This is cool!

Some time ago, I also bought some. And maybe I'll buy some more in the future. But currently, I have other goals for this year. The delegation was indeed my solution to hit two targets with one stone. My HP goal, because BRO pays HIVE dividends, and increase the BRO holdings because it's a solid dividend token on HE.

They have a large splinterlands holding which is a good reason to invest with the team.

I delegate hive to them for a small BRO income every day. It's adding up slowly.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yes, their Splinterlands holdings have been quite profitable for Brofund. I delegate to them as well.

Also, BROs vote on posts... This is also + a small percentage.

Yes, they (brofi) do, but not on every post of BRO holders. They have some quality requirements from what I remember.

Yes, that's right. However, low-quality content doesn't do anyone any good here.

Sure, I agree, it's better to filter the votes you cast rather than vote on every holder's post, regardless of what they publish.

Awesome, love Bro and it is a great project!

Thanks for dropping by, guys! :) I agree, it's a great project.

ye there is a lot too the bro project that is for sure and lots of ideas to come!

Raymond has commented and teased us with "You aint seen nothin' yet!". ;)

BRO is great, I've been buying tiny bits myself lately and only see the price rising. If anyone wants to sell a big bag, there's usually someone in the mancave discord that wants to buy.

That's good to know. Although I don't have a big bag. :D Yet.

me neither, but if someone does, they should check the Mancave discord. Asking doesn't hurt :)

Yep, for sure.

I got my first BRO tokens through winning a drawing back in the early days of CTPtalk. HODLing and adding as I am able. One of my favorite delegations. !BEER

I agree! BRO is one of the best long-term holdings I have on Hive-Engine.

Great information. Thanks for sharing.
