The Power of a Next Generation Mailer...

in LeoFinance3 years ago

Yesterday I wrote the weekly post about the progress on my Hive goals for 2022.

Unlike before, I decided to try something extra... To popularize that post using the recently relaunched Listnerds, by @jongolson and @blainjones.

That wasn't a marketing material even though the vast majority of people involved with the website have a background in affiliate marketing.

I didn't even craft a great email, if you ask me. But to my surprise, the engagement I received following the email sent far exceeded my expectations.

I mean, I heard Jon talking in great terms about the engagement he received following such emails, but I thought:

  • everyone on Listnerds knows Jon, which is not my case
  • he did promise additional incentives for those commenting on his blogs saying they come from Listnerds, which I didn't (apart from the upvotes)
  • he also has a great engagement on Hive, which is not often my case, even though I have my share

So I believed my numbers under these circumstances couldn't be so high.

Well... surprise! They were quite impressive. This was one of the posts where I received the most comments on. Not THE MOST, but close by. And I recognized enough (user)names to realize most of them came from Listnerds, that's if they didn't say it directly.

Below are the stats. Keep in mind this email was sent yesterday and some may still open it and click the link.

While the open rate is not fantastic, the click-through rate is, at above 90%. I received 37 comments on my post yesterday, half of them my own. My usual average is around 10, about half of them my own. Also 6 or 7 new accounts followed me on Hive. That's a nice boost, I would say!

Regarding the open rate, one has to understand the following:

  • Listnerds doesn't send actual emails, one has to log into the site to see the inbox - so the open rate depends on people's habits in using the site and how many are inactive
  • open rate will improve a bit, as more users see and open the email the following days

Where I believe Listnerds represents the next generation mailer is in changing people's habits.

Mailers were a very simple, spammy thing. Upgraded members spammed free members. Free members didn't read emails but tried to open as many as possible to make enough credits to send their own spam. Nobody cared what anybody else was saying.

With the new Listnerds, everybody (should) care. Both because rewards are involved (both for senders and for readers/voters), and because votes received from readers validates or not your emails.

And yes, it's the first mailer on a blockchain, fully intergrated and with its own token(s). Many elements that make ListNerds the next generation mailer. Some people should take notes...

Oh, and by the way, that means Hive is the first blockchain to have a mailer using its account management system. Not its reward pool, because rewards are on the second layer.

Login with Hive seems closer and closer to reality throughout Web3. Especially with things like HAF and HAS close to being finished.

I still need to sign up on the old note with a mail address?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

The initial sign up is with email and then link to your hive account.

Keep in mind this does not operate on Hive, it is an external service. They tie into Hive with HE tokens along with curation via staked CTP.

It is similar to Splinterlands in this regard.

Thank you for the clarification. Need to dig deeper into this project.

It is a good one. Sign up with an email and then you can use Keychain to log in (desktop of course).

A lot being offered there.

If you're wondering about Listnerds, I believe yes, you still need to sign up using an email address and you can sign in using Hive Keychain (or username/password).

So basically I send a link to hive post? Or am I just confused 😂

You send an email to users of Listnerds (to how many depends on your available mail credits). Not a regular email, it's just visible within Listnerds inbox, so it won't be sent via the regular email servers, to avoid spam complains. In the email you include the link to your post. Or anything you think it's appropriate. The email must have at least one link that the reader can click.

It would help to do a write to attract people to click through. A simple link might not get people to visit the post.

Of course! Now that I read my answer, someone might think a link would be enough. Not enough to convince people to click through. Subject line is very important. And so is what you write in the email. The better they are the more opens and then clicks you usually receive.

Makes sense, Don't wanna be a link dropper haha

Without a doubt Listnerds is a great tool, I personally use it on a regular basis. I also use it for my promotions and it is true that the opening rate is low but with that number of clicks it is effective.

There are still many who are used to the old way of using mailers. They have their auto-mailers set up and stopped interacting with Listnerds. I used to do that. But I don't believe that will work going forward.

Still early in the process.

We will see how it evolves. However, it seems to be more effective than traditional email marketing even at these early stages.

Fantastic friend, I'm just like you, learning, testing, and excited by all that ListNerds offers us. It is really unique. Greetings.

It certainly is unique. Maybe more will follow on this path.

A potential game changer. We could see massive expansion with it over time.

It all helps build what is taking place on here.

Bingo. I am going to be doing a more extensive article about this later in the week. Certainly it is nice to have some results.

People who are into building a brand are going to find this useful. As Listnerds grows, the opportunities are only going to increase.

The concept could be truly revolutionary.

Login with Hive...has a great ring to it.

Do that! What initially was targeted towards affiliate marketers, to bring them closer to the concepts of web3 and the abundance mindset, seems like it found a very nice use case for Hive bloggers / vloggers as well (not necessarily interested in affiliate marketing).

Without a doubt that is what seemed to happen. We are now at the point where a lot of things that are designed for one purpose appeal to another. Interesting that it was a user who came up with the idea, not the Listnerds founders.

It just shows how the hivemind of the community is a lot more powerful than any individual.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Exactly. But the founders quickly understood this is a powerful use case they haven't thought of initially.

It just shows how the hivemind of the community is a lot more powerful than any individual.

Totally agreeing with that.

Ah, I hate it when that happens. Using a different account by mistake.

I have to say that I saw your post on Listnerds as well. Unfortunately I seem to be getting very few e-mails (4 - 6 per day) so when I get one I jump :-). It's a great way to promote our posts I believe.

I believe that people want to engage with posts but they struggle to find the itneresting ones to do so. If now they want to get mailing credits and income from listnerds they can combine both together and comment on the posts that are presented on listnerds.

Yes, I noticed there aren't too many emails too. What membership do you have? I believe high-level memberships don't receive emails from lower level ones, unless they are solo emails.

I'm actually with a free account. Seems that there aren't that many mails available at the moment.

Sometimes there's a network problem when you are trying to register new member. The network do delay the mail.

You are talking about two different things. If it's a problem on registering, you should talk to support. On sending emails, isn't a validation phase at first? I need to understand better how validation works too.

Just out of curiosity, are you paying to send the mailers or using MAIL tokens? I'm currently dabbling to see what the buzz is about, but there's still some awkwardness to the process that I'm learning.

!1UP

I get it, it can be confusing if it's the first time you see a mailer, but you get used to it.

One can use these ways to send emails on Listnerds:

  • solo emails, to reach ALL members of Listnerds via one email - usually you must purchase each solo email you want to send, but they also come as a benefit for enterprise members (the top membership)
  • regular emails, using MAIL tokens, one per receiver. You can earn MAIL tokens by viewing emails, buying them separately, or they come from your membership (not for free accounts).

Personally I'm not buying MAIL tokens separately, mostly they come from my membership, but I also earn some.

I think Listnerds will be a great way to promote your blog posts!

I believe so too. Thanks for your comment!
