Recently I announced that I would have an on-going "contest" where people would have a chance of earning LEO for making comments on my content. It's my way of "giving something back" to the community while I am trying to increase the overall engagement. I give away 5 LEO in total, twice per week for starters, but I've already been thinking about doing something different shortly. It will continue like it has until next Wednesday 2021-04-14 though. I might do some changes after that, but I haven't decided yet.
You can read about it here:

I ignored a plagiarist from participating in this contest. So there should have been 31 people in total.
Instead of just giving each user a number, I did something entirely different to make this as fair as possible, while still being 100% random. I actually made it even more random by doing this!
The participants above have each been given a number. That number is based on the order of the comments in my articles. So, the first comment on the first post since I announced "round 2" of this is taskmaster4450le. The second one is natalia-irish and so on.
With a total of 30 people, I decided to give each participant a random number. I used random generator and entered 1 - 30 and pressed generate like shown below:
![generate.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmPutcVdGhWYNrepkz3rgfLh21LDZRLt62ePsNWzoBSyxL/generate.png)
This makes things even more random, as #1 suddenly becomes #3. I did this a lot of times. (You can't imagine how often you roll the same number more than once when you generate random numbers...)
Anyhow, I did this just to get each user a truly random number. After I had been generating new numbers for each participant, the list looked like this instead:
Username | Number | |
---|---|---|
taskmaster4450le | #3 | |
natalia-irish | #7 | |
alexvan | #27 | |
evernoticethat | #11 | |

In other words:
frankbacon, evernoticethat, tfranzini, bitcoinflood and alexvan.

I do this in an attempt of bringing more attention towards real & active engagement which reflects a healthy and thriving platform. The long haul goal is to take some of the awesome amount of engagement from the daily posts from @leomarkettalk and push some of that elsewhere instead. I have plans for how to grow this thing into something even better with time, so starting with my own posts are just the beginning.
This is definitely a lottery. The cost is a single comment to get a ticket. The tickets are powerful and meaningful and it will boost the overall engagement with time. The outcome is a thriving and active community that will attract more content creators.
- Engagement is key.
The third set of prizes will be sent on Wednesday
2021-04-14 and comments from this post is eligible.

An awesome initiative. It will definitely increase the community engagement as more comments and replies start flowing in.
Also the randomization process seems pretty nice.
Good luck.

I think it makes things extremely fair, but it was a bit time consuming so I might have to come up with something else instead. It depends on the amount of participants each time. It's fine to do it with 10 or 20 participants, but 30+ would probably become a bit too time consuming. We'll see how it goes. :)

I think the entire randomization process seems complicated but if works for you, its fine.
I do think it would be nice to see more comments outside the @leomarkettalk since it current takes around 20% of the comments daily on LeoFinance.

It wasn't really "complicated" in that sense, but it was time consuming. I just wanted things to be as random as possible before picking winners.. I might have to come up with something else though. It depends on the number of participants.

Wow, thank you for this gift, I just saw this right now. Engagement is important and helps the platform grow! Thanks again!

Remember when all the buzz was about Smart Media Tokens?
Nobody seems to talk about them any more. Maybe native Layer 1 SMT’s just aren’t as important any more since Hive-Engine (and other Layer 2 developers like LeoFinance) can create tokens.
Anyone know if there’s any ongoing plans for Layer 1 Smart Media Tokens as originally envisaged?

That's a really good question.. I have no idea but I certainly remember the days when that was literally the only thing people talked about..

Wonderful initiative along with others to increase the intercourse within the community. I spent some time on @leomarkettalk this past weekend and it was very interesting.
I noticed one comment regarding the Smart Media Tokens (SMTs). Now that is a blast from the past. Do we really need them? Asking for a friend.

Thank you. I think it's one step in the right direction as I'm going for overall engagement so we'll see how it goes. This is likely to be on-going for a long period of time, until I publicly stop it.
Regarding the SMT's, I have no answer.. I'm clueless.

Whoaa I won :)
Thanks, man! I'm happy about the prize but even happier about your constant efforts to make this community grow even more! Count on me to help with whatever I can

Congratulations and thank you very much, I appreciate it. I have some ideas for the near future as well, but most recently I have decided to focus more on comments rather than articles when I curate.
I think that goes well in hand with the things I am already doing to boost the overall engagement.

Congratulations to those with the lucky numbers. Honestly, it was a fair roll and sunlight shined on people closer to the air. Lolz. Great work.
Thanks. I tried to make it as fair as possible by generating random numbers for each participants as well as generate random numbers for the winners. A bit time consuming though, but I'm satisfied with the outcome.
